Josephine Riley
Josephine Boice Martin Riley, 91, of Browns Road, Reno, passed away at 1:15 pm on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born on November 9, 1916, in Marietta, a daughter of Homer O. and Maggie Kemp Boice. Josephine was a member of Sandhill United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of UMW at the church. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed gardening.
She was married to Lewis Martin who preceded her in death in 1957. Surviving is one daughter Joan Martin Brown, 2 grandsons and one granddaughter: Steven (Karen) Brown of Reno, Douglas (Mary Miracle) Brown of Marietta and Shelly (D. Clawson) Martin of Johnson City, TN; great grandsons: Nathan (Cassandra Smith) Brown and Kevin R. Schau of Williamstown, WV, great granddaughters: Natalie (Shane) Huggins of Vienna, WV, Kristy D. (Michael) Dugger of Johnson City, TN, 1 great, great grandson Anthony Dugger of Johnson City, daughter-in-law Judy (Harry) Callander of Port St. Luci, FL, several nieces and nephews and friend Anna Butler.
She later married Clarence Riley who preceded her in death in 1967.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her son Richard R. “Jack” Martin, daughter Marjorie Sue Martin, granddaughter Steffie Jo Martin, brothers: Jacob L. Boyce and John O. Boyce, sister Margaret H. Farnsworth, son-in-law Duane R. Brown, 2 sisters-in-law: Helen Boyce Dotson, Hazel Boyce Simms, and step-daughter Verna Green.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, October 3rd at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Wendy Erb officiating. Burial will be in Valley Cemetery. Harley L. Schneider
Harley Lee Schneider, 72, of Marietta, died Monday, September 29, 2008, at Heartland of Marietta.
He was born on February 15, 1936, in Vienna, WV, to Andrew and Barbara Harris Schneider. He spent most of his life in Marietta and attended Marietta High School. He served with the United States Army from 1959 – 1961. He was a Union Painter for many years until his retirement in 1981. He was a Methodist by faith.
He is survived by one son Cecil, one daughter Kim, two brothers Frank Schneider (Laraine) of Marietta, Paul Schneider (Hiroka) of Michigan, two sisters Sue Kostelnik (Bob) of Marietta, Thelma Cortez of California, several nieces, nephews and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, one brother, two sisters and his four dogs: Scooter, Chu-Chu, Chu-Chu II and Baby Buttons.

Karen Carter
Karen Irene Carter, 59, of Lower Salem, Ohio, passed away at 8:58 pm on Friday, September 26, 2008, at Marietta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Marietta on September 1, 1949, a daughter of Pearley and Florence Warfield Carpenter. Karen was a homemaker.
She is survived by her 2 sons: Roy Carter of Reno and Ricky Carter of Marietta, her granddaughter Mysti Carter of Akron, her 2 brothers: Mel Carpenter and Don Carpenter both of Savannah, GA, several nieces and nephews and her ex-husband Roy Carter, Sr.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Dell Warfield.

Gayle Camp
Gayle Lynn Camp, 59, of High Street in Vincent, Ohio, passed away at 5:40 pm on Thursday, September 25, 2008, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Marietta on February 6, 1949, a daughter of William North and Rosalie (Ed) Pitner. Gayle graduated from Warren High School in 1967 and was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and active in Relay for Life.
On October 21, 1988, she married Jimmy Camp who survives with their children: Steven E. (Missy) Hicks of Rupert, WV, Erin Blaker of Waterford, Samantha (Coye) Underwood of Tacoma, WA. Sabrina (Tom) Golebiewski of Raymond, ME, Patrick Camp (Danielle) of Carnegie, PA, PFC Leslie (Chad) Marsh of Winston-Salem, NC (currently serving in Iraq), 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother and sisters: Richard (Linda) North of Waterford, Nyla (Dan) Wiggins of Vienna, Brenda (Duane) Wolfe of Racine, Cheryl (Sam) Keller of Cleburne, TX and Billy Jean (Bob) Barrett of Athens and life-long friend Opal Waggoner of Barlow.
She was preceded in death by her father and brother Ronnie North.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, September 29th, at Living Faith Methodist Church in Belpre with Reverend Terry Cavanaugh officiating. Howard R. Kehl
Howard R. Kehl passed at Marietta Memorial Hospital September 24,2008 to meet his heavenly father. Together again with beloved wife Jessie Hendershot. Preceded in death by his parents, Florence Beihl & Adam Kehl, sister Mildred, brothers Clarence, Gerald, Lloyd, and Harley, and son-in-law Chuck Erb. Survived by daughter Bettie Lou Kehl Erb, grandson Ronnie, granddaughter in law Lisa, great granddaughter Abbigail M. Erb, sisters Marie, Myrtle, brothers in law, sisters in law, many nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews, and many good friends. Born in Germantown 1914 Feb. 21st. As a young boy cut timber and worked on the farm with his parents. 1937 married Jessie Hendershot worked on the W.P.A and still worked in timber. 1940 God gave them their lovely daughter Bettie Lou. 1945 bought a farm then farmed and worked for Ohio fuel gas co. Retired at age 65, then worked 3 days a week up until full retirement at age 70 as a sawyer. Sold the farm 1969 downsized to a mobile home where he worked in his shop on you name it. Dad fixed it for many family members & friends. His sports were fishing, hunting squirrels, rabbits, and ground hogs. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family gives special thanks to many friends and family who helped him. Special thanks to Randy & Debbie Dennis, Lou Anne & Earl Camden, Berry Hendershot, and Joyce Rae. Funeral services will be at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home Saturday September 27th at 1PM with visitation from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. Pauline Christlieb
Pauline May Ward Christlieb, 64, of Lord Street, Marietta, passed from this life to the next at 10:30 pm on Tuesday, September 23, 2008.
She was born on August 22, 1944, in Fleming, Ohio, to Dennis C. and Pauline Way Martin. She spent all but twelve years of her life in the Marietta area.
Pauline is survived by her husband, David M. Christlieb, her first husband, Robert L. Ward, 3 sons: Robin, Joseph and Steven, 5 granddaughters, 1 grandson, 3 great grandsons, 1 great granddaughter, 2 sisters and 1 brother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Robert Lee Ward, Jr., a great grandson and one brother.

Lewis E. Close
Lewis E. Close, 82, of Muskingum Drive, passed away at 5:20 am on Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born on November 12, 1925. Lewis was a life member of the VFW 5108 and the American Legion Post 64. He served in the U. S. Army.
Lewis is survived by his wife Virginia Lee Close whom he married on August 9, 1969. She is also survived by their children: Janet (Richard) Wittekind, Jo (Ron) Alley, Melvin D. Close, Galen Close, grandchildren: Samantha and Justin Alley, Krystal (Paul) Lincoln, Thomas and Matthew Wittekind, great grandchildren: Tiffany and David Lincoln, Kassandra Wittekind, great, great grandchildren: Keyonte’ Lincoln, Rickie Sergent III, brother Alfred Close.
In addition to his parents, Alfred and Mary Close, he was preceded in death by his sons, James Close and Alan Pfeiffer and sister Betty Close-Martin.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 am on Marietta First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Terry Schmelzenbach officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with full military rites. Eva I. Sprague
Eva I. Sprague, 96, of Colegate Drive, Marietta, died at 5:00 am on September 20, 2008.
She was born on September 19, 1912, in Washington County, Ohio, a daughter of Clark Middleswart and Hattie Hill Middleswart. Eva was a member of Warren Presbyterian Church and had been employed by Otto Brothers, Kresege’s and sold Avon Products.
She was married to Ralph Frazier who preceded her in death. Surviving is her daughter Donna L. Farley, granddaughter Janet L. Bruce, 2 great grandsons; Benjamin Bruce and Samuel Bruce, and great granddaughter Erica Stafford. She later married Hurchel Sprague who also preceded her in death.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her grandson John Randall Sprague, brother Charles Middleswart and sister Helen McKnight.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, September 23rd, at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial in East Lawn Memorial Park. Irene K. Close
Irene K. Close, 96, of Glenwood in Marietta, passed away at 10:40 am on Thursday, September 18, 2008, at Harmar Place.
She was born on July 11, 1912, in Fearing Township a daughter of Walter A. and Clara Trautner Zimmer. She was a graduate of Marietta High School, Class of 1929 and Marietta Business College. She had been employed as a legal secretary at Attorneys Summers & Summers, E. F. Folger and Robert M. Noll. She retired as an Administrative Assistant from the Trust Department of Peoples Bank N.A.. Following her marriage she also was employed by Rose, Bevis & Armstrong in Columbus. Irene was a long time member of Wagner Union Church, Sunday School and Ladies Fellowship of the church. She was a charter member of Pioneer Association of Legal Secretaries and Farm Bureau Council No. 89, and a member of Stanleyville Ladies Guild, and former member of Washington Council Farm Bureau Women’s Committee, Ohio State Extension Homemakers Council and Whipple Grange No. 2186. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and after retirement doing volunteer work for community organizations. She and her husband enjoyed going to fairs. She served as clerk for 35 years for the open class beef judging at the Washington County Fair.
Irene was preceded in death on March 19, 1993, by her husband, Carl A. Close whom she married on July 21, 1940. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her twin sister Ida Zimmer on December 23, 2004.
She is survived by 13 nieces and 6 nephews and several great nieces and nephews, few cousins and many friends and special friend, Sandra Newlon.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 20th, at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Ferrell officiating. Burial will be in St. Jacob’s Cemetery. Friends may call from 7:00 pm on Friday until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Wagner Union Church or charity of choice. Ruth McCabe
Ruth Hood McCabe, 88, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2008. Ruth was born on January 25, 1920 in Ambridge, PA, a daughter of William and Viola Hood.
She is survived by her sons Jack McCabe and Tom McCabe, her loving brother and sister Richard Hood and Helen Meinert, her beloved granddaughter Amanda Shriver, her grandsons: Jeff, John, and Mark McCabe and her great grandsons Hunter, Colton and baby Logan and many nieces and nephews. Ruth loved her family dearly and enjoyed painting, ceramics and playing cards. She was a very wise, quick-witted wonderful person who will be missed very much and never forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her son James E. McCabe and brother William “Bill” Hood.
A special thanks to the wonderful people of Heartland and her brother Rich who made Ruth’s last years as comfortable and pleasant as possible.

Judy A. McCloud
Judy Ann (Kerns) McCloud of Marietta passed away on Monday, September 15, 2008, at her home. Judy is survived by her husband of 47 years, Retired Army Veteran, SFC Raymond Dallas McCloud, daughters Jeanna McCloud Pennington with her husband Abele of Westpoint, Mississippi, and Teresa McCloud Hutchison of Fayetteville, North Carolina; grandchildren: Tiffanie, DJ and Destin and 2 great grandchildren, Vanessa and Daniel Alan. Also several loving family members and friends survive Judy. Preceded in death is her son, Raymond Dallas McCloud, Jr., parents, Charles and Jeanette Kerns, 4 sisters and 2 brothers. Judy graduated Marietta High School with the Class of 1961 and belonged to several organizations. Florence Heidorn
Florence Heidorn, 86, of Bohl Drive, Marietta, passed away at 9:15 pm on Friday, September 12, 2008 at Heartland of Marietta. She was born on March 29, 1922, in Abington, PA, a daughter of Elmer and Stella Wiekel. She had been a member of Grace Baptist Church since 1977 and enjoyed singing in the choir. She had been employed as a checker at A & P. Florence enjoyed talking on the CB Radio and was known as “Heavenly Sunshine”. She was a wonderful wife and a great mother. Florence married George G. Heidorn who preceded her in death. Surviving are 2 sons: George (Ruth) Heidorn of Marietta and Don (Connie) Heidorn of Ft. Myers, FL, 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and sister Elizabeth Wiekel of Ashland, NC. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son Robert W. Heidorn, 3 brothers and 4 sisters. There will be no visitation at this time and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
