Juanita J. Kelly

       Juanita Jean Kelly, 81, of Marietta passed away at 11:55 pm on Saturday, February 28, 2009, at Marietta Rehabilitation Center.
       She was born on June 28, 1928, in Marietta, a daughter of Chester Clyde Anthony and Nellie Lavone Martin Anthony.  She had been employed at Marietta Memorial Hospital in the housekeeping department until her retirement.
       She is survived by 2 sons and 1 daughter:  Robert (Cathy) Boice of Reno, Rick A. (Lyria) Boice of Marietta and Sharon (Ronald) Blair of Marietta, 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and brother Ronald (Sarah) Beardsley of Marietta
       She was preceded in death by her husband Robert W. Boice, her parents, one son Chester Clyde Anthony, Jr., 1 grandchild and 1 great grandchild.

Robert L. Allender

            Robert L. Allender, 75, of Coal Run passed away Monday, February 23, 2009 at his home.
            He was born on July 2, 1933 in Marietta to Perley Grover Allender and Dorothy Marie Jeffers Allender.  Robert served in the Korean War from 1953 to 1958.   He had been employed at Morrison’s Inc for over 30 years and was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Union 33 of Parkersburg.  He was also a member of the Lowell American Legion.
            Surviving is his wife of 49 years, Emma Jane Blume Allender and their three children James Allender and his wife Sheryl, Cheryl Wallace her husband Larry and Greg Allender.  Also surviving are his grandchildren Larry Wallace II, Ryan Wallace and Stacy Allender.
            In addition to his parents, brothers William, George, Perley Jr. and Richard Allender preceded him in death.
           Funeral Services will be held at 3 pm, Saturday, February 28th at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral with burial in East Lawn Memorial Park.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 pm on Friday until the hour of the service.  The family will be present on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9. 

Virginia M. Davis

       Virginia M. Davis, 88, formerly of Warner, passed away at 9:15 am on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at The Arbors of Gallipolis.
       She was born on October 23, 1920, at Lower Salem, OH, to Fred and Laura Matz Williams.  She was a homemaker.  During WWII she was employed by Sylvania installing filaments in light bulbs.  She was a graduate of Lower Salem High School and a member of Warner United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school and arranged for church flowers for the altar on Sunday, was active with The Golden Rule Circle and President of the Ladies Alliance at the Lower Salem Universalist Church.  She was a member of Eastern Star and enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning and cooking.
       On April 19, 1941, she married Walter W. Davis who preceded her in death on October 7, 1996.  She is survived by 2 daughters:  Connie Boyce of Ripley, WV and Patti (Michael) Myers of Gallipolis; 5 grandchildren:  Joe (Alma), Jerry, Kaitlyn, Rachel, Abby; 4 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and cousins; 3 sisters-in-law:  Leora Twiggs, Gloria Arbaugh, Juanita Davis.
       In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Warren Edward Davis.
       Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial in Salem Township Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 am until the hour of the service. 

James R. Mendenhall

       James Richard Mendenhall “Dick”, 81, of Marietta, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2009, at Heartland of Marietta.
       He was born on January 5, 1928, in Newport, OH, a son of Howard William and Nettie Jane Burkhart Mendenhall.  Dick had been employed at Remington Rand Sperry Univac, Kardex Systems and Washington County Engineering retiring in 1993.  He was a graduate of Newport High School and had served in the US Army.
       On October 16, 1948, he married Corrine Binegar who survives with 4 daughters:  Janet Mendenhall of Marietta, Bonna (Thomas) Lamp of Rinard Mills, Joyce (Larry) Lent of Concord, NC, Monna (Cam) West of New Matamoras; 7 grandchildren:  Joesph (Lori) Lamp of Lowell, Lori (Trent) Smith of Brownsville, OH, Stacey (Aaron) Courtney of Beverly, Cory and Samuel Lent of Concord, NC, Cam (Shannon) West of Newport, Carrie (Dustin) Nippert of TX; great grandchildren:  Joesph and Danielle Lamp, Katelynn and Dakota Smith, Blake and Cassidy Courtney, Briar and Maddox West, Caden and Aubrey Nippert.  Also surviving are 2 sisters:  Dorothy Edgar of New Matamoras and Themla Skinner of Marietta and several nieces and nephews.
       He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Elizabeth Wiley, 2 brothers Calvin and Ronald Mendenhall, grandparents:  Ike and Mary Mendenhall and Micheal and Elizabeth Burkhart.
       Funeral services will be held on Friday (Feb, 27) at 3:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Thibault officiating with full military rites.  Family will greet friends on Wednesday from 2until 4 and 6 until 8 and on Thursday from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8.

Helen M. Badgley

       Helen Mae Badgley, 90, of Williamstown, passed away at 1:25 pm on Monday, February 23, 2009, at The Arbors of Marietta.
       She was born on April 24, 1918, in Vincent, OH, a daughter of Charles A. an Audrey Burchett Porter.   Helen had been employed at Fenton Art Glass and was a member of Williamstown Methodist Church.
       On December 25, 1943, she married Lawrence Badgley who preceded her in death on November 9, 1976.  Helen is survived by 2 sons, Donald (Delores) Badgley of Williamstown and Orlando, FL and Joseph (Therese Cox) Badgley of S. Charleston, WV; stepdaughter Dorothy (Bob) Cameron of Canton; 7 grandchildren:  Sam, Doug, Jordan, Genevieve, Carol, Kay, and Ken, and several great grandchildren.
       In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 3 stepdaughters: Virginia Donahue, Charlotte Long, Francis McIntire; 4 brothers:  Rex, Herb, Ralph and Walter Porter.
       No calling hours will be observed.  Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.  McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.  Memorial contributions in Helen’s memory may be made to Arthritis Foundation, Ohio River Valley Chapter, 7124 Miami Avenue, Cincinnati, OH  45243.

      

Myra Wolverton

      Myra Wolverton, 67, of Prince Frederick, MD, passed away at her home on February 15, 2009. 
      She was born on August 20, 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Myron and Grace Marion Davis Jordan.  Myra was a graduate of Spurr School of Nursing in Glendale, WV and had been employed at Truman Smith Children’s Care Center in Gladewater TX. Myra loved her dogs, Buffy and DJ, scrap booking, researching her family’s genealogy, and traveling.
       On October 4, 1958 she married Marvin Wolverton who preceded her in death on February 1, 2005.
       Surviving are her children Catherine (Greg) Fisher of Prince Frederick, MD, John (Lori) Wolverton of Louisville, OH and Joseph Wolverton of Marshall, TX.  Also surviving are 7 grandchildren,  2 great grandchildren, and her brother Jason Richardson.
 In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons Patrick Wolverton, Robert Wolverton, and Scott Wolverton and brother Myron Jordan Jr.
       A memorial service for Myra and Marvin will held 10:00 am, Saturday March 7th at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 pm on Friday until the time of the service. The Family will be present for 6 to 8 on Friday to greet friends.

Lenora I. Fryman

       Lenora I. Fryman, 87, of Marietta Nursing and Rehabilitaion Center passed away at 8:25 pm on Monday, February 16, 2009, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
       She was born on January 16, 1922, in Constitution, Ohio, a daughter of Lewis and Lenora Hall Francis.  Lenora was a homemaker.
       On January 17, 1938, she married Franklin Fryman who preceded her in death on May 18, 1991.
       Lenora is survived by her daughter-in-law Margaret Fryman of Marietta; grandchildren:  Judy Strauss of Kettering, Frank Fryman of Ridgeland, SC, Randy Fryman of Fleming; 6 great grandchildren:  Daryl Sparks, Melissa Hafer, Ryan Strauss, Michael Sharp, Gregory Fryman, Samantha Fryman; 2 great, great grandchildren:  Aliza and Chey Anne; 2 brothers:  Eugene Francis and Virgil Francis both of Marietta; 3 sisters:   Grace Gossett of Belpre, Iva Jo Yoho of Arkon, Alice Lynch of Louisville, OH.
       She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son Darrell Fryman and 3 brothers and 1 sister, and 2 great grandchildren.
       Funeral services will be held on Friday (Feb. 20) at 1:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Eaton officiating. Alice M. Lauer

       Alice Mae Lauer, 98, of Marietta, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2008, at 11:30 am at Harmar Place.
       She was born on March 24, 1910, the 4th of 11 children to the late Fred and Carrie Moody McInturf in a log cabin near Pennsville, OH.  She worked for Essex Wire in Zanesville, OH, for many years and cared for elderly people.  She had no children but cared very much for her brothers, sisters and their children.  She had a great sense of humor and liked to make people laugh.  She also liked to walk and work in her garden.  She was a Christian by faith, being baptized at a young age and was a member of the Sixth and Washington Streets Church of Christ.
       In 1968 she married Elmer Lauer who preceded her in death in 1994.  Surviving is his daughter, Elaine Ogle of Whipple. Also surviving are her sisters:  Mary Niceswanger of Marietta and Ruby McPherson of Pataskala; special people in her life:  niece, Yvonne (Melvin) Barth of Ruskin, FL, great nephews Greg (Donna) Barth and Chris Barth of Newport, several sisters-in-law, cousins and other relatives.
       In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers:  Dwight, Frank, Eli, Raymond, Robert and William McInturf and sisters:  Ruth Townsend and Mae McCoy.
       Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Randy Baker officiating. Frank E. McAlarney

       Frank E. McAlarney, “Junior”, 83, of Lower Salem, passed away at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 14, 2009, at Heartland of Marietta.
       He was born on May 16, 1925, in Akron, Ohio, a son of Frank E. and Ruth Baker McAlarney.  He was a farmer and a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church.
       He is survived by 2 sons and 3 daughters:  Terry McAlarney, John McAlarney of Lower Salem, Beverly (John) Schwenk of Knox, IN, Shirley (Marion) Austin of Lewisville, OH, Susan Newkirk of Nashville, TN, 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 2 brothers:  Robert (Mildred) McAlarney of Bonn and  Fred (Peggy) McAlarney of Belpre and 1 aunt, Arminta Lee of Marietta.  He was preceded in death by his former wife Bessie Overman.

David A. Revels

       David A. Revels, 54, of Marietta passed away at 4:50 am on Thursday, February 5, 2008, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
       He was born on February 10, 1954, in Fairmont, WV, a son of Louise Revels Murphy.  Dave was employed by Gary’s Towing.
       On March 10, 1954, he married Dora McCune who survives with one step daughter Melanie Tryon of Cincinnati and 2 brothers, Jeff Murphy and Shirley Murphy, 3 sisters:  Brenda Darnell, Virginia Murphy and Missy Murphy.
       In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one stepson, John Tryon and one brother, Steve Murphy.
       Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday (Feb. 9) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 2:00 pm on Sunday with family present from 2 until 4 and from 6 until 8. 

Bradley W. Forshey

       Bradley Webster Forshey of Oak Grove, Marietta, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at 11:25 pm at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
       He was born in Marietta on January 18, 1931, a son of Clyde and Nellie Carpenter Forshey.  Brad was a graduate of Marietta High School and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  He was retired from Airolite Company and was a member of the Sixth and Washington Street Church of Christ and the VFW.  He enjoyed metal detecting, fishing and spoiling his grandchildren and spending time with his neighbors.
       On March 14, 1952, he married Patty Jean Duffy who preceded him in death on November 25, 2003.  He is survived by 3 children:  Brenda (Greg) Truex, Bradley L. (Ruth) Forshey both of Marietta, and Bobby (Angie) Forshey of Fleming, special niece Sue (Jim) Mellon of Marietta; grandchildren:  John Bradley Forshey, Sarah Elaine Forshey, Beverly Evie Forshey and Emily Rose Forshey.  Also surviving are 2 sisters:  Charolett Carpenter and Bessie (Carl) Lang.
       He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Beverly Lou Forshey, and brothers and sisters:  Evelyn Violia Kidd, Gertrude Ball, Cleona Harlow, Bernard Forshey, Dwight Forshey, Nellie Forshey, and Fredrick Forshey.
       Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday (Feb. 7) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Roger Rush officiating.  Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park with full military rites. Burl E. Eddy

       Burl E. Eddy, 90, of Newport, Ohio, passed away at 6:45 pm on Monday, February 2, 2009, at Heartland of Marietta.
       He was born in Sistersville, WV, on September 29, 1918, a son of Charles and Rose Butcher Eddy.  Burl retired in 1983 from Quaker State Oil Refining Corp at St. Marys.  He was a veteran, serving in the U. S. Army during WWII, and a member of Sistersville Church of Christ.
       On August 12, 1945, he married Laura Marie Matheny who preceded him in death on April 6, 2004.
       Burl is survived by his son Donally Robert “Bob” Eddy of Newport.
       He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and 2 brothers, Paul and Forrest Eddy and one sister, Lucille Moody.
       Funeral services will be held on Friday (Feb.6) at 1:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Evangelist Jerry Toothman officiating.  Burial will be in Newport Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 2:00 pm on Thursday with family present from 2 until 4 and from 6 until 8.
