Bessie Faye Morris Hamilton

       Bessie Faye Morris Hamilton, 100, of Fourth Street, passed away at 5:59 am on Sunday, September 27, 2009, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
       She was born on June 27, 1909, in Ritchie County, WV, a daughter of James and Martha Peters Morris.  Bessie had been employed in the Dietary Department at Marietta Memorial Hospital, was a member of First Baptist Church since 1953, Marsha Binkley Circle and Adult Fellowship Sunday school class and the Win-One-Class.  She was a stamp collector and enjoyed genealogy and sewing.
       On February 22, 1934, she married Glenn Hamilton who preceded her in death in 1950.
       Bessie is survived by 4 sons and 2 daughters:  Glen (Lois) Hamilton of St. Petersburg, FL, Robert Dale (Iris) Hamilton of Cumming, GA, Edwin Hamilton of Marietta, Thomas (Bonnie) Hamilton of Marietta, Martha Kaufman of Grove City, OH, Danea Carpenter of Marietta, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.
       She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 6 brothers and a twin sister Dessie, 1 grandson, 1 granddaughter and her dog Brandy.
          Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (September 30th) at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church with Pastor David Bilyeu officiating.  Burial will be in St. Marys, WV, I.O.O.F. Cemetery.  Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2:00 pm with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 and at the church on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 am. 

Murrill “Dutch” Holland

          Murrill G. “Dutch” Holland, 74, of Barlow, passed away at 2:30 am, Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the Muskingum Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
          Dutch was born November 22, 1934 in Marietta to Forrest and Sarah Weaver Holland.  He was a graduate of Marietta High School and had retired from Marietta Memorial Hospital after over 20 years of service.  Dutch was a member of the Twin Rivers Baptist Church, enjoyed Southern Gospel Music, gardening and taking care of his dogs and cats.
          Surviving are his children Mark (Judy) Holland of Waterford, Natalie (Bill) Spindler of Marietta and Melissa (Josh) Coombs of Florida.  Also surviving are grandchildren Erica (Scott) Biehl of Newark, Shelley Holland of Waterford, Tiffany (Brad) Hoyt of Findey, Matthew Spindler of Marietta and Kelsie and Josh Brockmeier of Florida and great grandchildren Troy Gibson and Madison Biehl.  Twin brother Darrill Holland of Marietta and sister Mildred Richards of Akron also survive him.
          In addition to his parents 10 brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
          Memorial services will be held 1 pm Thursday, October 1, at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Longgrear officiating. The Family will greet friends from 11 am Thursday until the hour of service.

Charles E. Shankland

          Charles E. Shankland, 77, of Reno, passed away at 1:51 am on Sunday, September 27, 2009, at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital.
          He was born in Monroe County, Ohio, on September 20, 1932, a son of James E. and Hazel McPeak Shankland.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Forma Scientific and Pennington Bakery.
          On February 29, 1964, he married Marilyn P. Benson who survives with 3 sons:  Wayne (Renee) Shankland of Devola, Randy (Barbara) Shankland of Reno and Scott (Nikki) Shankland of Reno, 5 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and brother Robert Shankland of Macksburg.
          He was preceded in death by his parents.
          Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (September 29th) at 2:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Reverend Gale Lauderman officiating.  Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park with military rites.  Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 pm on Monday afternoon.  On line condolences may be shared at:  www.mslfuneralhome.com.

Chester W. Reynolds Sr

          Chester W. Reynolds Sr., 88, of Marietta, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 26, 2009, at his home.
          He was born January 8, 1921, in Wood County, WV, one of 11 children, to Lillian and Harvey Reynolds.
          He was a US Army WWII Veteran who served in the Asiatic theater under General
McArthur and received 2 Bronze Stars and a Victory Medal.   He enjoyed farming; especially working with draft horses and participated in many events around our region involving his horses.   He retired from the Ohio Department of Highways, having worked as a mechanic and later as the assistant superintendent of the district. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, St. Marys, WV, and the Ohio Draft Horse Association.
          He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Joretta Wheaton Reynolds, five sons and five daughters, Bob (Patty) and Tom (Dee) of Newport, Betty O'Brien (Randy), Naomi Peton (Jacques) and Chester Jr. (Nancy) of Marietta, Michael (Audrey) of St. Marys, Roy (Alice) of Byesville, Patty Montgomery of Louisville, KY, Bobbi Hatcher (Chris) of Parkersburg and Teresa Hall (J.R.) of Canton, Georgia, 21 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, two brothers, Carl of Williamstown and  Earl of Vincent and three sisters, Virginia Boso of Little Hocking, Florida Sholes and Dollie Patterson, both of Parkersburg. He is also survived by several stepchildren and step grand-children, including, Steve Wheaton (Karen), Stefanie Wheaton Arnold (Don) and their children.
          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 46 years, Garnet Behlke Reynolds; his second wife of 11 years, Bertha Eddy Reynolds, a son, Chester Wayne and a daughter, Dolly Louise, a great-granddaughter Lacey Hupp and brothers, Harvey Jr., Ralph and Virgil and sisters, Gladys and Inis.
          A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday (Sept. 29th) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Reynolds and Rev. Robert Smith officiating.  Burial will follow at Tunnel Cemetery with full military rites.  Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 pm on Monday and one hour before the service.  On line condolences may be shared at:  mslfuneralhome.com.

Mary Ann Waterman

          Mary Ann Waterman, 34, of Marietta, died on Sunday, September 20, 2009, in Marietta.
          She was born on December 6, 1974, to Robert V. Waterman and Debra K. Waterman, who survive with daughter Debra Lee Williams, stepfather James E. Britton, sister Bobbi Jo Waterman, grandfather William Raymond Waterman, grandmother Margaret Marie Dillon, brother-in-law Tim D. Mugrage,  special aunt Jane Evans and much more special family.
          There will be no services observed at this time.

Sidnie Ann Davis Walters

       Sidnie Ann Davis Walters, 78, of Oak Grove passed away at 2:03 pm, Sunday, September 20, 2009 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
       She was born June 13, 1931 in Kermit, WV to Howard Sydnie Davis and Georgia L. Davis Wilson.  Sidnie was a member of Gilman United Methodist Church, Meigs Beagle Club, Columbus Beagle Club, and a lifetime member of the Marietta Beagle Club.
       On April 2, 1949 she married Edsel Walters who survives with children: Kathy Ann Murray of Lowell, Thomas Brian (Carole) Walters of Marietta, and Keith Alan (Cynthia) Walters of Powell, OH.  Also surviving are grandchildren Julie M. Count of Germany, Brooke N. Rudolph of Williamstown; Logan J. Stanley, Blake M. Linger, L. Tanner Murray, Clasey Walters, Brittany Walters and Preston Walters all of Marietta; Ethan T. Walters, Sidnie E. Walters, and Candace J. Walters all of Powell and great grandchildren Benjamin, Samuel, Emma, Ashton, Hannah, Trista, Levi, and Lance.  Sisters Norma J. Davis Cisler of Marietta, Sandra S. Wilson Burdette of Vienna and Karen G. Wilson Vansickle and brother Clifford M. Wilson both of Columbus also survive her.
      Funeral services will be held 11 am Saturday, September 26, at Gilman Avenue United Methodist Church with Reverend Diann O’Bryant and Teddy Tackett officiating.  Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at 2 pm Friday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with the family greeting friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 and on Saturday 1 hour before the service at the church.

Mary Lee Robbins Jones

       Mary Lee Robbins Jones, 69, of Belpre, passed away at 8:00 am on Monday, September 21, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Parkersburg.
       She was born on December 13, 1939, in Rinard Mills, Ohio, a daughter of Willard Robbins and Helen Haught Eddy of New Matamoras.  She had been employed at Public Debt for several years, graduated Lawrence High School in 1957 and was a member of Wingett Run Church of Christ.
       On January 11, 1963, she married Franklin Eugene Jones who preceded her in death on July 30, 1992.
       Mary Lee is survived by 1 son and 1 daughter:  Darren Scott (Brett Nicole) Jones of Williamstown and Cynthia Yvonne Jones of Belpre, granddaughter Nevaeh Gracie Jones, and brother Wayne Robbins of Newport.
       She was preceded in death by her father, husband, and sister Bonnie Cline.
       Funeral services will be held on Thursday (September 24th) at 10:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Randy Baker officiating.   Entombment will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00 on Wednesday afternoon with family present from 2-4 and 6-8.

Ralph M. Stacy

       Ralph M. Stacy, 81, of Oak Grove, Marietta, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2009, at 4:30 pm at Marietta Nursing and Rehab Center.
       He was born on April 14, 1928, in Marietta a son of Merle and Wilma Talkington Stacy.  Ralph graduated from Marietta High School and attended Ohio State University.  He was a farmer who owned and operated Stacy Farms, was a founding member of Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department, a Deacon of First Congregational Church, past president of Marietta Truck Growers Assoc., was very active in Washington County Farm Bureau and past member of Marietta Civitan Club.
       On November 25, 1951, he married Mary Joan Green who passed away on May 25, 1983.
       Ralph is survived by 2 sons and 1 daughter:  William Don (Janet) Stacy, Elizabeth Ann (Randall) Sims, Bruce Ralph (Julia) Stacy, grandchildren:  Amanda, Todd and Tyler Stacy, Kenner Sims, Mary Kathleen (David) Prim, and Scott Sims, Donald Ralph and Joanne Marie Stacy; great grandchildren: Madison and Lucas Prim.  Also surviving are 2 brothers:  Leo (Janet) Stacy and Paul (Beverly) Stacy.
       In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his infant son, Brent Merle Stacy.
       Funeral services will be held on Friday (September 25th) at 11:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Reverend Linda Steelman officiating.  Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 2:00 on Thursday afternoon.  Memorial donations are requested to:  Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department, 102 Oak Grove Lane, Marietta, OH 45750.

Leona L. Antill

       Leona L. Antill, 73, of Marietta, passed away at 1:55 am on Monday, September 21, 2009, at her home.
       She was born on August 27, 1936, in Washington County, a daughter of  Ralph Albert Lauer and Sylvia Smithberger Lauer of Reno.  Leona was a member of Harmar Hill Church of Christ and was a homemaker.
       On November 7, 1954, she married Paul Antill who survives with 2 sons:  Gerald (Diana) Antill of Reno and Kevin P. Antill of Marietta, 3 grandchildren:  Mike, Calvin and Christopher Antill. 
       She was preceded in death by her father.
       Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1:30 pm at Harmar Hill Church of Christ with Bob Vincent officiating.  Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.  Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home after 2:00 pm on Wednesday and on Thursday one hour before the service at the church. 

Margaret Miller Townsend

      Margaret Miller "Peg" Townsend, 94, of Washington Pennsylvania, died Saturday, September 12, 2009, in the Washington Hospital.
      She was born December 20,1914 in the upstairs living quarters of the telegraph office of the Union Pacific Railroad in Cisco, California where her father Earl was the telegrapher. Located in the remote High Sierra Mountains of Northern California, near Dormer Pass, at an elevation of over 5,000 feet, Cisco is the highest point of America's first transcontinental railroad.
      With the looming outbreak of World War I, her parents Albert Earl and Amy Grannis Miller moved their young family east to be near his parents at the Miller family homestead near Avella, Pa. - Bancroft Farm. They had three children at that time, Margaret, Louis Albert Miller, and Delvin Glenn Miller, Earl Miller died in the flu epidemic of 1918 before their fourth child, Orrin Guy Miller, was born,
      Her brothers, Albert and Delvin Miller, founded and developed Meadowcroft Village, and Delvin founded The Meadows in 1963. The youngest child, Orrin, died July 27, 1944 when his B-24 bomber was shot down over Hungary.
      Mrs. Townsend was a 1933 graduate of Hickory High School, in Hickory, Pennsylvania, and a 1937 graduate of The College Of Wooster in Ohio, where she met her husband, Albert M. Townsend of Marietta, Ohio. Al Townsend was the son of the late Dr. & Mrs. Edwin B. Townsend of Marietta. Dr. Townsend was a long time pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Marietta. Margaret Miller and Albert Townsend married December 18,1936. Her husband died May 26,1998. The Townsends lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Shreveport, Louisiana, Sandusky and Marietta Ohio, Williamstown, West Virginia, Somerville, New Jersey, Washington, Pennsylvania and Sun City Center, Florida. Mrs. Townsend was a homemaker and while living in Somerville. New Jersey, a kindergarten teacher She made friends easily and will be remembered for her kind, loving nature and her wonderful sense on humor.
      Surviving are two sons, John Albert Townsend of Washington, Pennsylvania, and Alden Miller Townsend of Crofton, Maryland; six grandchildren, William Miller Townsend, Kelly Townsend Rostic, Jeffrey B, Townsend, David A- Townsend, Kristin Townsend, Megan Townsend Bennett, and nine great grandchildren.
      She is also survived by three beloved daughters-in-law - Jackie Mayer Townsend, Janice Downes Bariski, and Anne Bushfield Townsend; her mother's soon to be 100-year-old sister, Reta Grannis Greene of San Bernardino, California, and a cousin, John Anderson of Highlands, North Carolina.
      Deceased is her youngest son, Timothy Townsend who died February 10, 1977, the husband of Janice Dowries Bariski, and father of Kristin and Megan, her three brothers, Albert; Delvin and Orrin Miller, and her sister in law, Mrs. Delvin "Mary Lib" Miller.  
      There will be a public graveside service at the Riverview Cemetery, Williamstown, WV, on Saturday, September 26 at 11:00 AM. McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting the family.  Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.mslfuneralhome.com

H. R. 'Bob' Bules

      Harold Robert 'Bob' Bules,84 of Lowell, OH passed away at his home on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 3am after an extended illness.
      Bob was born on Nov 27, 1924 in Marietta, OH to Wava and Edward Bules.   He was a Marietta High School graduate and World War II U.S. Army veteran (A Company 60th Engineer Battalion C). He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1985 after 23 years of service.   He owned and operated the Lowell laundry mat for 30 years. He was a friend of 4H for his services to Camp Hervida. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, camping, and was an auto enthusiast.
      Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Dailey Bules and 4 children: Neil & Teri Bules (Knoxville, TN), Jon & Sandy Bules (Marietta, OH), Molly & Joe Chambers (Corvallis OR), Amy & Gerard Fortune (Cincinnati, OH), and 7 grandchildren: William & Elizabeth Bules, Ian & Tyler Bules, Megan & Michael Chambers, and Haley Fortune.
      In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his 2 brothers Dale and Billy Bules, sister Leota Ludtman, daughter Jane Naylor, and granddaughter Sarah Naylor
      A memorial service will be held at Lowell United Methodist Church on Saturday Sept. 19, 2009 at 11:00 am. A visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 9:30 am in the church's fellowship hall. Marcena E. Watters

       Marcena E. Watters, 81, of Marietta passed away at 10:00 pm on Sunday, September 13, 2009, at Marietta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
       She was born on February 8, 1928, in Marietta a daughter of Howard Watters and Ida May Flowers Watters.  She was a member of the Auxiliary of VFW and American Legion.  Marcena had been employed as a surgical nurse at Marietta Memorial Hospital before her retirement.
       She is survived by her sister Frances I. Watters and several nieces and nephews.
       In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 5 sisters.

Carl Jones 

           Carl Jones, of Concord, N.C., formerly of Marietta, Ohio, passed away of a long illness on Tuesday (Sept. 8, 2009).
            Carl was a U.S. Army and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a longstanding member of the American Legion Post 64 of Marietta, Ohio.
            Carl was a retired auto body mechanic and he loved old cars and auto racing himself, as well as watching his sons race.
            He is survived by his wife, Hilda Jones; two sons, Jeremy and Kevin Jones of Concord, N.C.; daughter, Lisa of New Jersey; granddaughter, Destiny Jones of Concord, N.C.; brother, Emmet "Buck" Jones of Medina, Ohio; brother, Larry Jones and wife, Sandy, of West Chester, Pa.; sister, Lola Tebay and husband, Bob, of Marietta, Ohio; sister, Betty Kinzer and husband, Jim, of Winfield, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
            He was preceded in death by his father, Delbert, and his mother, Norma Jones of Marietta, Ohio.
            Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday (Sept. 15, 2009) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home in Marietta. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with full military honors. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

William L. McPherson

       William L. McPherson, 63, of Williamstown, passed away at 5:20pm on Friday, September 11, 2009, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
       He was born on June 18, 1946, in Marietta a son of Galen M. and Helen K. Cassidy McPherson.  He was a Vietnam veteran with the U. S. Air Force and had owned and operated the American Shoe Shop in Marietta. He had also been employed for 34 years with Vanguard Paints. He enjoyed gardening and coin collecting.
       On November 28, 1970, he married Shirley Buxton who survives with one daughter, Deanna (Todd) Wilson of Marietta, 2 grandchildren, Vanessa “Nessa” Noel Wilson, Cassidy “Cassie” Elizabeth Wilson, special friend of the family Tylor Thomas of Parkersburg, 1 brother Eddie (Cheryl) McPherson and niece Jessica (Jason) Parsons.
       Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 15th, at 10:00am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Adkins officiating.  Burial will follow in Valley Cemetery with full military honors.  Visitation will begin on Monday at 2:00pm. 

Carla Owen Sample

            Carla Owen Sample,76, of Williamstown, passed away at 11:50 am on Friday, September 11, 2009, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
          She was born on March 10, 1933, a daughter of Carl Owen Dutton and Louise Knox Devine.  Carla was a homemaker.
          She is survived by 4 sons and 5 daughters:  Greg (Kathleen), Kirby (Marilyn), Richard, Ron, Marcy, Sheri, Keri (Robert), Laurie Jo (Willi), and Kris, 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; 2 brothers and 2 sisters:  Richard, Jeff, Donna, Jody.
          She was preceded in death by her parents.

Dwight E. Wittekind

       Dwight E. Wittekind “Pappy” of Marietta went home to be with the lord on his 79th birthday, Wednesday September 9, 2009 at Marietta Care Rehabilitation and Center. He was born in Bartlett, OH to Ida M. and Lawrence A. Wittekind.  He was the devoted husband for 59 years to his wife Dorothy, who survives him. They were married June 24, 1950. 
       He was a loving father to his daughter Eve Szabo (Ted) of Marietta, son Mark Wittekind (Beth) of St. Augustine, FL.  One son Brett Wittekind preceded him in death in 1988. His parents also preceded him in death. He was a beloved “Pappy” to his grandchildren Stephanie Neonakis (Nick) and Jennifer Szabo of Shaker Heights, OH, Adam Wittekind (Carrie) and Julie Wittekind of Nashville, TN and Russ (Brandy) of Olathe, KS and had a special place in his heart for great granddaughter Megan Neonakis of Shaker Heights, OH.  Other great grandchildren include Max and Alex Neonakis of Shaker Heights, OH, Maury, Mada, and Drew Wittekind of Nashville, TN, and Colton Wittekind of Olathe, KS.  Surviving siblings are brothers Delbert (Helen) of Fleming, Donald (Arlene) of Marietta, and sisters Karen Strahler of Marietta, Thelma West (Cletis) of Marietta, and Lodi Dunn of Marietta.  Many nieces and nephews also survive him.
       He was very active in his sons’ Little League Baseball programs.  He was a former volunteer in the Oak Grove Fire Department and an Emergency Squad EMT. He retired from the DuPont department of engineering after a career of dedicated service.
       A memorial service will be held 2 pm, Sunday September 13, at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Minear. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, West Virginia Chapter, Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Office, 1218 Market Street, Parkersburg, WV 26101.

Ronald L. Stewart

       Ronald L. Stewart, 72, of Williamstown passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
       He was born July 1, 1937 in Gallipolis, Ohio to the late James C. Stewart and the late Dorothy Stewart.  Ron graduated from Marietta High School in 1956. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Germany.  In 2001, Ron retired from DuPont after 42 and a one half years.
       In Williamstown, he was a member of the American Legion Post 159 and the First United Methodist Church. Ron enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and feeding wild birds. He was an avid fan of Williamstown High School football and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a friend to everyone and was always ready to lend a helping hand.
       Ron is survived by his loving wife Sharon and devoted daughter, Lisa. He married Sharon Worstell on August 30, 1964. They recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary.  Also surviving is a brother, Robert (Armelda) of Savannah, GA; a sister Nancy (Gary Miracle) of Vincent; a sister-in-law Judy of Brandon, FL; stepmother Loraine Stewart of Punta Gorda, FL and a dear aunt Juanita Craft of Hurricane, WV.  Many good friends and neighbors also survive him.
       In addition to his parents, a twin brother Donald preceded Ron in death.
       The family wishes to thank Dr. Cawley and her special “Strecker Gals” and Amedysis Hospice for their loving care and support.
       Funeral Services will be held at 1:30pm on Saturday (Sept. 12th) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park with American Legion Post 159 officiating with full military honors. Grace E. Davis

       Grace E. Davis, 76, died at her home in Marietta at 8:00 am on Monday, September 7, 2009.
       She was born on August 19, 1933, to Russell and Ethol Devol.  She graduated with the Marietta High School Class of 1951.  She attended Baldwin-Wallace College.  After two years, she transferred to St. Lukes School of Nursing where she graduated with an RN degree in 1956.
       On October 9, 1954, she married Robert L. Davis and in 1957 moved to Phoenix, Arizona.  Six years later she and her husband and 4 young children moved to California, first to Glendale and then to Camarilla, CA.   She worked as an RN there until 1987 when she and her husband returned to Marietta.  In 1989, she began work as an RN with Marietta Memorial Hospital.  She retired from there in 1999.
       Grace is survived by her husband Bob, her two sons, Mark R. (Ruth) Davis, Greg J. (Laurie) Davis and daughter Susan K. Davis, 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, sister Judy (Mike) Spahr , brother John Devol and numerous nephews and nieces.
       Preceding her in death are her father in 1992 and her mother in 1995 and son Russell in 1995.
       Visitation will begin at 3:00 pm on Thursday (September 10) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with brief services following at 4:00 pm.
       The family requests contributions in memory of Grace to Hospice and Home Nursing, 210 Seventh Street, Marietta, OH 45750.

Charles W. “Bill” Frum

       Charles W. “Bill” Frum, 80, of Marietta passed away on Monday, September 7, 2009, at 12:47 pm at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
       He was born on April 21, 1929, in Williamstown, WV, a son of Carlton and Mary Page Frum.  Bill was a member of the Teamster’s union and a veteran of the U. S. Air Force serving in Korea.  He was a life member of VFW Post 5108 and American Legion Post 159 in Williamstown.
       On February 27, 1953, he married Dorothy Lucas Frum who survives with 3 sons and 1 daughter:  Martin “Marty” (Judy) Frum of Ft. Worth, TX, Michael Frum of Rockwall, TX, Matthew (Rita) Frum of Marietta, Macey (Ken) Terry of Reno, NV; 7 grandchildren: John Frum, Joshua Frum, Jeremy Frum, Megan Bonauro, Lindsey Estes, Hunter Frum, Spencer Frum; 3 great grandchildren:  Dylan Frum, Chase Estes, Sophia Bonauro.  Also surviving are 1 brother and 2 sisters:  Robert Frum, Betsy Caltrider, Barbara Beaver and several nieces and nephews.
       He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Thomas Daly Frum.
       A gathering of Bill’s friends will be held on Thursday (September 10th) at American Legion Post 159 in Williamstown from 6 until 9 in the evening.  McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Cynthia L McLendon Corbitt

       Cynthia L. McLendon Corbitt, 85, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at the Summerville at Outlook Manor, Westerville, Ohio, with her family by her bedside. 
       Cynthia was born, January 28th, 1924 in Jackson, Alabama to Richard and Oneta Rotch. After graduating from Grove Hill High School, she attended Providence Hospital School of  Nursing at Mobile, Alabama, graduating as an RN in 1946.  She was a practicing nurse until her marriage in 1951 to Quincy W. McLendon, at Marietta, Ohio, where she made her home until her move to Westerville, Ohio in 2007.  She remained married, to Quincy, until his death in June 1965.  In May 1969, she married Dr. Parker J. Corbitt Jr., DDS. Parker passed away in 1983.
       Cynthia is survived by her two daughters, Deborah McLendon, Westerville, Ohio, and Judy (Timothy) Kurtz , her 2 grandsons, Quincy and Parker Kurtz, Gahanna, Ohio.  One brother, Thompson (Maxine) Rotch and one sister, Ethelyn Givhan, both of Fairhope, Alabama and many nieces and nephews.  Preceeding her in death is her 1st husband, Quincy W. McLendon and her 2nd husband, Dr. Parker J. Corbitt Jr.  Four brothers: Richard C. Rotch, Jr., Elroy Rotch, Obed Earl Rotch and Lemar and three sisters: O’Gwynn Sherman, Mary Horelick and Oline Taraci. 
       During her life in Marietta, she was involved in many community activities.  In 1963, she became a member of the Marietta Welfare League, participating in numerous events until she became a sustaining member in 1972.  She co-chaired many of the door-to-door Heart Sunday campaigns sponsored by the American Heart Association. She also proudly co-chaired, for countless years, the American Heart Association annual balloon sales.  She was very active with the First Baptist Church of Marietta until her health began to fail. She taught the Sunday school class, for 4-year olds, for over 25 years.  She enjoyed attending her church circle, The Win One Class. She served on the Women’s Board of the Betsy Mills Club. Cynthia Corbitt was one of the founding members of the Hill and Dale Garden Club. She loved growing and arranging flowers. Her floral arrangements won many blue ribbons at the Washington County Fair. They were also featured in the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs, Inc. gardening magazines and calendars. Her passion was golf.  During her life, she was an avid golfer, involved with the Women’s Golf Association at the Marietta Country Club.  She won not only WGA Club Championships, but also the Mary Snearly Memorial Tournament and various other tournaments.  She also enjoyed quilting, playing bridge and spending time with her family.
       Graveside services will be held 11 am Wednesday, September 9th at Riverview Cemetery.  The family will greet friends at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 on Tuesday.   In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to The American Heart Association.

Jack D. Schofield

       Jack Dennis Schofield, 76, of Whipple, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2009, at 6:41 am at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
       He was born on November 29, 1932, in Lower Salem a son of Leonard Joseph and Mildred Irene Dennis Schofield.  Jack was a member of Lower Paw Paw Church of Christ. He graduated in 1950 from Salem Liberty High School and had served in Europe in the U. S. Army from 1953-1955.He was retired from American Cyanamid and enjoyed blue grass music. 
       On July 3, 1952, Jack married Ramona Goodwill who survives with 1 son and 1 daughter:  Stephen Ray (Marilyn) Schofield and Jacqueline Dawn (Ted) Lauer both of Whipple; grandchildren:  Laura, Lynnette and David Lauer and Joshua and Jacob Schofield, 2 great grandchildren, brother Joe (Mary) Schofield of Marietta and sisters:  Betty (Rudy) Misner of Punta Gorda, FL and Mary (Dick) Burcher of Malta, brother-in-law Vaughn Goodwill of Portland, OR, and several nieces and nephews.
       In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Donald and Guy and his beloved dog Oliver.
       Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (September 8th) at 1:30 pm at Lower Paw Paw Church of Christ with Tom Tucker officiating.  Burial will be in Salem Township Cemetery.  Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home on Monday after 2:00 pm.  On line condolences may be shared with the family at:  www.mslfuneralhome.com.

Dorothy M. Henthorn

       Dorothy Marie Berg Henthorn, 85, of Sixth Street, Marietta, died at her home on September 2, 2009, at 9:50 pm.
       She was born on September 16, 1923, at her family’s home in Fearing Township, Whipple, to Reinhold and Laura Zimmer Berg.  She attended Oak Shade and Stanleyville Elementary Schools and Marietta High School.  She worked for American Bisco Pottery.  Dorothy was a member of Norwood United Methodist Church and belonged to the United Methodist Women.
       On November 26, 1946, she married John B. Henthorn who preceded her in death on February 11, 1999 after 52 years of marriage.  She devoted her life to being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
       Dorothy is survived by 2 daughters:  Linda Henthorn and Judy (Lynn) Wagner, and one son, Leroy Henthorn all of Marietta, 7 grandchildren:  Lance (Katherine) Wagner, Kim (Scott) Wolfert, Rob (Jamiann) Henthorn, Tori (Al) Miner all of Marietta, Johnny and Jimmy Warren and Jill Barnhill of Myrtle Beach, SC and 12 great grandchildren, brother Carl (Delores) Berg of Whipple, several nieces and nephews and very special friend and loving care giver Lois Hasley.
       She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Almeda (Guy) Oliver, 2 half-sisters, Helen Stark and Katherine Gerken.
       Funeral services will be held at 1:30 on Sunday (September 6th) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Reverend Don Archer officiating.  Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 pm on Saturday with family present from 5 until 8. Scotty D. Noland

       Scotty D. Noland, 52, of Stockport, passed away at 12:01 am on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at his home.
       He was born on October 4, 1956, in Marietta, a son of Clayton Noland and Marilyn A. Morris Noland who passed away on February 4, 1970.  Scott was a graduate of Warren High School with the class of 1975 and had retired from Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Local 168 after 30 years.  He raised quarter horses and team roped. Scotty loved working on old cars and trucks.  He was a member of the VFW Men’s Auxiliary.
       Scott is survived by his companion Sherry Noland, children:  Marilyn (Bill) Callahan, David Noland and Kayla Cleveland; grandchildren: Madysen, Clayton and Chloe Callahan; brothers Rick (Vivian) Noland and Mike (Pat Schoeppner) Noland; nieces and nephews:  Stephanie (Mike) Sydenstricker, Carrie Hannan, and Jesse (Shauntae) Noland.
       In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his stepmother Wilma Noland who died on August 11, 2009.

William J. Dennis

       William J. Dennis, 89, of Reno, passed away at 10:52 pm on September 1, 2009, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
       He was born in Newport Township on January 22, 1920, a son of William Jennings and Matilda Gravius Dennis.  He was a member of Valley View Baptist Church and had been self-employed in the vending machine business.
       On July 22, 1960, he married Evelyn May Spacie Dennis of Lincolnshire, England, who survives with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
       Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday (September 5th) at Valley View Baptist Church with Pastors Paul Morton and Gale Lauderman officiating.  Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.  Friends may call at McClure Schafer Lankford Funeral Home from 2:00 pm on Friday with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 and one hour before the service at the church.
