Alfred Herrick

       Alfred Herrick, 81, of Marietta, passed away 1:15 pm Sunday, May 31, 2009 at the Marietta Center.
       He was born May 16, 1928 in Terre Haute, IN to Andrew and Pearl Mae Larkins Herrick.  Alfred was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.  He owned his own meat locker in Clay City, IN for 20 years before working for the State of Indiana as a food inspector for 19 years.  After his retirement, he moved to Marietta where he drove the Trolley for tourists, and school bus for Ely Chapman and Marietta City Head-Start programs.  Alfred was also a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Past Master of the Masonic Lodge in New Goshen, IN and a member of the Zorah Clown unit of the Shrine in Terre Haute, IN.
       On July 3, 1949 he married Shirley Stultz who survives with daughter Suzanne Walker and her husband Jeffery of Marietta and son Jonathan Herrick and his wife Julie of Cloverdale, IN.  Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
       In addition to his parents a brother Arnold Herrick preceded him in death.
        A graveside service will be held 2 pm Friday, June 5th  at Riverside Cemetery in Clinton, IN.

Robert E. “Bill” Stevens

       Robert E. “Bill” Stevens, 77, of Marietta, passed away at his home at 2:10 pm on Saturday, May 30, 2009, surrounded by his loving family.
       He was born in Belpre, Ohio, on January 10, 1932, a son of Charles and Florence Holland Stevens.  Bill retired as a mechanic from the City of Marietta.  He loved fishing.
       On October 1, 1960, he married Evelyn G. Keyes who survives with children:  Susan (Terry) Dearth, Peggy (Bob) McElfresh, Bill (Linda) Stevens, Thelma Conant and Anna Johnson all of Marietta, grandchildren:  Jackie (Jennifer) Conant, Mitchell (Jessica) Dearth, John (Delta) Conant, Matthew (Megan) McElfresh, Joshua (Kayla) McElfresh, Jared, Tyler and Heath Stevens, Jennifer Haught, Jessica Neville, Chelsea and Isaiah Johnson, Tyler and Marissa Prunty, great grandchildren:  Cole Conant, Jaidyn and Dylan Dearth.  He is also survived by brothers Clyde Stevens of Lowell and Fred Stevens of Winterhaven, FL.
       In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: Howard, Carl, Walter and Charles and sisters: Irene, Lucile, Gertrude, Audrey, and Thelma.
      Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (June 2) at 10:30 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford       Funeral Home with Gene Haught officiating.  Burial will be in Gravel Bank Cemetery.  Friends may call after 4:00 pm on Monday with family present from 4 until 8.
Memorial contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to:  American Cancer Society or Home Nursing and Hospice, 210 N. Seventh Street, Marietta.

Vernice L. Rinard

            Vernice Lucille Smith Rinard, 82, former resident of Marietta Ohio, died May 23rd, 2009 at the Kobacker House Hospice in Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by her daughters.
            She was born June 19, 1925 in Arvilla, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Nora Williamson and Pearly Smith. On May 30, 1948 she married Ralph Emerson Rinard, who preceded her in death in 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister Pearl Smith and brothers, Paul and Phillip.
            Vernice volunteered with several service clubs, including the Washington County and Northwood Extension Clubs, Muskingum Garden Club, and the Marietta Y's Men, and was an active member of the United Methodist Women of Norwood United Methodist Church. In later years she worshiped at Christ United Methodist Church and enjoyed spending time at the O'Neil Senior Citizen Center where she sang with the Senior Singers and spent many hours with the RSVP crafters and Euchre group.  Vernice moved to Columbus in 2007 during an acute respiratory illness and remained there after her recovery where she was supported by her family. She regretted leaving Marietta so abruptly and not being able to return to see her dear friends.  She remained active playing cards and enjoyed many activities throughout her stay in an assisted living facility in Columbus where she served as the president of the Residents' Council. 
            She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands Paula and Ken Renker, Dianne and Robert Schlicher, Jr. and Nina and Lynn McKnight and grandchildren Kerry and Matthew Green, Joshua and Heather McKnight, Kurt and Crystal Schlicher, Stacey and George Gornall, Danielle and Craig Wright, and Maegan Schlicher. She was thrilled to see and hold her great-grandchildren, Alexis and Lucas Wright, William Green, and step great-grandson, Connor Kasiara. She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth Gorrell and several nieces and nephews. Her family cherished her and will miss her dearly.
            Friends and family will be received on Monday, May 25th at the McClure Schafer Lankford Funeral home in Marietta, Ohio from 2pm to 4 PM and 6-8 PM. Services will be held on Tuesday, May 26th at 11AM at the Christ United Methodist Church in Marietta with the Reverend Don Archer officiating. Visitation preceding the service will begin at 10AM in the church narthex. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Anna C. Hutchins Lamb

            Anna C. Hutchins Lamb, 85, of Stockport passed away 12:15 pm May 21, 2009 at her home.
She was born on April 4, 1924 to Herman and Rosie Felter Hutchins.  Anna was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother
            On January 17, 1942, she married Paul Harding Lamb who died May 9, 1993.
            Surviving are sons Ronald (Phyllis) Lamb of Gladys, VA, Karl (Linda) Lamb of Fleming, Kenny (Edie) Lamb and Mike (Shelly) Lamb both of Stockport; and daughters Linda Ullman of Coolville, Diana Terlosky of Fleming, Donna (Butch) Weber of Pennsville, Janet (Rick) Long of McConnelsville, Debra (Larry) Meek of Williamsport, Ohio, Karen (Allan) Hill of Waterford, Susan (Mike) Hupp of Marietta, Tina (Terry) Kidd of McConnelsville , Pam Drobina (Rick Simmer)  of Chauncy and Anita (Randy) McCutcheon of Vincent.  43 grandchildren 63 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren also survive with special friends and neighbors Dave and Stacey Rowland of Stockport.  Her constant companions, dogs Rufus and April and cats Patches and Daisy also survive.
            In addition to her parents and husband Anna was preceded in death by a daughter Thelma Hart on March 30, 2006, brother Albert Hutchins, sister Lula Mae Ritchie, infant sister Mary Louise, a grandson, 2 great grandsons and son-in-law Bill Terlosky.
            Funeral services will be held 1 pm Saturday, May 23, 2009 at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Chad McCune officiating.  Burial will follow in Pennsville Cemetery.  Friends may call from 2 pm Friday until the hour of service.  The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 on Friday.  Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.mslfuneralhome.com.  Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home.

Helen M. Green

       Helen M. Green, 80, of Vincent, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday evening, May 19, 2009, at her home.
       She was born on November 6, 1928, in Independence Township a daughter of Herbert and Mamie Miller Decker.  Helen had been employed as a Nurse’s Aide at Marietta Memorial Hospital and as a clerk at National Drug Store.  She was a member of Sixth and Washington Streets Church of Christ and attended House of Hope.
On January 6, 1946, she married Neil F. Green who preceded her in death. 
She is survived by 1 son and 2 daughters:  John P. Green of Centerville, Michigan, Pamela S. Green (Charles) Hess of Marietta, Penny L. Green (Michael) Nicholson of Marietta, 5 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by one sister Kate Lankford Anderson of Marietta, her caregivers and friends Roger and Loretta Korte, sister-in-law Evelyn Decker and 2 beloved dogs.
       She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers:  Robert, Ford, Patrick and John Decker and sisters:  Grace Gearhart and June Guckert Strauss.
       Funeral services will be held on Friday (May 22nd)  at 11:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home. Burial will be in Beverly Cemetery. Visiting will begin at the funeral home on Thursday after 2:00 pm, until the hour of the service.

Mary E. Kerby

       Mary E. Kerby, 76, of Marietta, passed away at 2:28 pm on Friday, May 15, 2009, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
       She was born on November 19, 1932, in Belpre, OH, a daughter of Berlin B. and Dixie M. Drake Hardie.  Mary had worked in housekeeping at Marietta Center and attended Marietta Bible Center Church.
       On July 25, 1964, she married Woodrow Kerby, Sr. who preceded her in death on February 4, 2000.
       Mary is survived by 2 sons and 1 daughter:  Randy R. (Nancy) Hardie of Greenville, SC, Gary D. (Tammy) Hardie of Marietta and Brenda S. (Timothy) Fuqua of Tulsa, OK, 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 brother Leo D. Hardie of Blackwell, OK, nephew Ralph Hardie with whom she lived and the Kerby children and grandchildren.
       She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 2 brothers and 2 sister.
       Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (May19) at 1:00 at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Reverend Benjamin Kerby officiating.  Burial in Gravel Bank Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00 on Monday afternoon with family present from 2-4 and 6-8.  On line condolences may be shared at:  www.mslfuneralhome.com.

Josephine Margaret Holland

            Josephine Margaret Holland, of Wintergreen Road, Senecaville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at The Inn of Marietta.
      She was born on May 17, 1921, in Marietta, a daughter of John Thomas and Cora Miller Haas.  Jo graduated from Marietta High School in 1939. 
      On March 19, 1941, she married Roy Holland, Jr. who preceded her in death on May 27, 2001.  Jo is survived by one son and one daughter:  Lyle (Beverly) Holland of Youngstown and Lyla (Jack) Gabler of Fayetteville, NC; daughter-in-law Karen Holland of Byesville; sister-in-law Jackie Shively of Williamstown, sister Neva (Floyd) Kerpes of Marietta; 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She retired after 20 years from Barberton Citizens Hospital.
      In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 2 sons:  Thomas Michel Holland and Johnnie Roy Holland and brother-in-law John Shively.
      Graveside services will be held on Saturday (May 23) at 10:00 am at Riverview Cemetery in Williamstown.  Memorial contributions may be made in Jo’s memory to American Cancer Society.

Jack R. Malone

       Jack R. Malone, 88, of Marietta, passed away at his home at 9:00 am on Tuesday, May 12, 2009.
       He was born in Marietta on April 20, 1921, a son of Roe and Bonnie Wright Malone.  Jack had been employed for 33 years at Union Carbide/Elkem, was a veteran of U.S. Navy during WWII, serving in the European and Asian Theatres, was a third generation Pike Streeter, a member of VFW Post 5108, American Legion Post 64 and Disabled American Veterans.  He enjoyed greyhound racing, both as an owner and fan, and enjoyed both Cincinnati Reds and Marietta College Baseball.
       On February 14, 1946, he married Charlotte Perdew who preceded him in death on April 19, 2004.
       Jack is survived by 1 son and 1 daughter:  Patti Jo (Randall) Perry of Belpre and Kirk R. (Mary) Malone of Marietta; 2 grandsons and 5 granddaughters:  Greg (Jessica) Malone of Marietta, Shawn Malone and his fiancé Gloria Armel of Parkersburg, Nicole (Joe) Banfield of Hawaii, Natalie Malone, Misty Perry (Michael) Durham of Columbus, Amy Marie Perry and Tiffany Rose Perry both of Belpre.  Also surviving are 5 great grandchildren:  Gaven and Kaleb Malone, Jacob Banfield, Baylee and Julia Malone.
       In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a great grandchild Reese Malone and a sister.
       Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday (May 15) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial in East Lawn Memorial Park with full military rites.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday afternoon after 2:00 with family present from 2-4 and 6-8.

Thelma Luvetta (Teetie) Williams

Thelma Luvetta (Stalnaker) Williams of Lowell, Ohio passed away May 11, 2009 at Selby General Hospital.
       Born in Charleston, West Virginia, November 9,1925, to Elmer Russell and Laura Raines Stalnaker and moving to Lowell, Ohio in 1945.
       Married Clarence Forrest Williams on April 6, 1946, who proceded her in death on October 24, 1989.
       She was a 30-year employee at Richloaf/Pennington Bakery, retired from Heartland of Marietta in 1987; was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Marietta, Ohio and, was a Pythian Sister.
       She is survived by her son Raymond Leslie and wife, Bonita Jean (Stewart) Williams of Clinton, LA.
       Granddaughter Leslie Suzanne Williams, of Marietta, Ohio; great-grandson David Allen Kuhn of Greensboro, N.C.
       Granddaughter Lori Raenae (Williams) and husband, Terry James Gerken. Three great-grandsons, Justin Ray, William Dewitt and Thomas Jonathan Forrest of Marietta, Ohio.
Three sisters, Phillis Reger Newell of Marietta, Ohio; Deloris Hupp (Ronald) of Largo Florida; Janice Augenstein (Brent) of Ellenton, Florida; one brother, Elmer (J.R.) Stalnaker Jr., (Scottia Lynn) of Colorado Springs, CO; one sister-in-law, Erma Stalnaker, of Eldridge, Iowa, 16 nieces and nephews.
       Preceded in death by her husband, parents, her two brothers, Elmer Fisher Stalnaker and Earl Buel Stalnaker; her sister-in-law Rada Stalnaker; two brothers-in-law Carlos Reger and Ross Newell; and, niece Lilas Kay Moore.
       A Graveside service will be held at East Lawn Memorial Park at 2:00 P.M., Friday, May 15, 2009, arrangements by McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home. Donations to a charity of choice are requested in lieu of flowers.

William Floyd Coe

       William Floyd Coe of Vincent, Ohio passed away peacefully on Friday (May 8, 2009) at his mother's home in Fleming with his family by his side.
       Floyd was born on July 15, 1961 in Newark, Ohio, a son of Lewis W. Coe and Elizabeth Beardmore. He attended the Bridge Baptist Church in Little Hocking and graduated from Warren High School in 1979.
       By trade Floyd was a carpenter. He recently worked for Marietta Mack, was the owner of Jo Coe Video, and safely supervisor for Winans in Parkersburg.
       Anyone who knew Floyd knew he had a big heart, and would do anything for anyone. He loved watching NASCAR, the speed channel, and spending time with his sons, family and friends.
       Floyd is survived by his two sons, William Kelcey and John Kyle (Stacey) Coe. His mother Betty (Jim) DeLancey and father Wes (Shirley) Coe ; two grandmothers Jennie Janet Beardmore, Martha DeLancey; three siblings Wes (Janie) Coe, Jennie (Chris) Crousser and Brenda (Kenny)Meek; two special nieces Beth Ann (Tristan) Kostelnik and Jessica Meek; five special nephews, Shane (Tara), Andy (Lisa), Joey (Amanda) Crousser, Taylor and Alex Coe; his sons' mother Mary Jo Pryor, grandmother, Marian Wogan, Aunt Vicki Wogan; his great nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.
       He was preceded in death by Herman and Gladys Coe, Lawrence Beardmore, and Dan Beardmore, Dale Wogan, and Judy Coe.
       Visiting will begin at 2:00 on Monday afternoon with family present to greet friends from 2-4 and 6-8. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (May 12) at 1:30 pm at the McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home, Marietta. Burial will be in the East Lawn Memorial Park.  Memorial contributions may be sent in his name to Home Nursing Services & Hospice,  210 N 7th St # 300, Marietta, OH 45750.

June Rowekamp Chutes

       June Caroline Rowekamp Chutes, 80, of Marietta, passed away at her home at 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 5, 2009.
       She was born on June 28, 1928, in Marietta a daughter of the late Henry and Katherine Spies Rowekamp.  June was a lifelong member of the Central Christian Church, graduated from Marietta High School, and was an out-going and gregarious bank teller for many years at Peoples’, Citizen’s, Central Trust Banks and retired from Bank One.  She loved to golf and was a local women’s champion in the Ladies Leagues.  She and her sister Mary Lou sang on the radio during World War II for local USO programming.
       June is survived by her daughter Lori Chutes (Robin) Buckley, son Dan (Julie) Chutes and grandchildren:  Mahria Hall, Aaron (Jessica) Carver and Zachary Chutes, great grandchildren: Zachary and Seth Carver, brother William Rowekamp and numerous nieces and nephews.
       She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Marjorie Sands and Mary Lou Hastings and brother David Rowekamp.
       Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday (May 9) in the Chapel at East Lawn Memorial Park.  McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.   

Carol L. Emerick

       Carol L. Emerick, 78, of Marietta, passed away at 8:25 pm on Saturday, May 2, 2009, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
       She was born on August 10, 1930, in Marietta, a daughter of Carl and Blanch Farley Miller.  She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading and baking.
       On September 21, 1946, she married James Robert Emerick who preceded her in death on June 10, 2003.  Carol is survived by 3 sons and 4 daughters:  Mike (Carolyne) Emerick of Beverly, Larry (Nancy) Emerick of Marietta, John Emerick of Oregon, Darlene Driggers and Rick of Marietta, Connie Berry of Reno, Carol Clay of McConnelsville, Sandy (Randy) Offenberger of Waterford; 23 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and several brothers and sisters.
       She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Robert J. Emerick, daughter Kathy Smith, grandson Shane Emerick, and 2 sons-in-law, Robert Berry and Bob Clay.
       Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (May 6th) at 1:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Kenneth Ogg officiating.  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6:00 pm with family present from 6-8 and on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8.
