John A. Wigal, Sr.
John A. Wigal, Sr. of Belpre, OH went to be with the Lord on July 29th 2009. He passed at home surrounded by his loving family.
John was born in Marietta, OH on September 21, 1921, to the son of Parker and Pearl Shires Wigal. He graduated from Marietta High School in 1942; he then attended Marietta College. John served in the United States Navy for four and a half years, WWII and the Korean Conflict. He graduated from electrician’s school in Detroit, MI and made his career as an electrician. He was a 50-year member of the AF&M #1 Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Scottish Rite, IBEW 972 and a 50-year member of the VFW. He was also a Past Patron, Marietta OES 59. John was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church.
On June 22, 1946 he was united in marriage with Guelda Noland. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, son John (Weegie) Jr. of Vincent, daughter Kathy (Dennis) Rezabek of Marietta, former daughter-in-law Winnie (Rodney) Gill of Hockingport; step-brother retired Major Donald E. Kilmer; grandchildren: Ricky (Jana) Joseph of Newport, Jennifer Wigal of Belpre, Brian Joseph and partner Dennis Lumbatis of Reno, Jeff (Shannon) Joseph of Marietta, Laura (Nehi) Copeland of Stewart and Anna Gill of Hockingport; great grandchildren: Alex Joseph, Braeyn Joseph and soon-to-be baby girl Joseph; step-grandchildren: Robert (Holly) Ellis of Marietta, and Linda (Eric) Grady of Grafton, WV; step-great grandchildren: RJ and Maddie Ellis, Allison and Tyler Grady, Nicholas Fowler and Breanna Keffer; several nieces and nephews; his beloved dog Pretty Girl, and cat Daisy Mae.
John is the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his parents Parker and Pearl Shires Wigal; stepmother Iva; brother Harold Wigal; sisters Grace Blouir & Katheryn Combs, and infant brother and sister.
John found great joy in his life through the Lord, his loving wife, children, grandchildren and his pets.

Funeral services will be 11 am Saturday (August 1) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial in East Lawn Memorial Park. Wilma E. Thomas
Wilma E. “Sis” Thomas, 95, of Columbus, formerly of Marietta, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Columbus.
She was born on January 10, 1914, in Monroe County a daughter of Clyde and Sena Camden. Wilma was a member of Norwood United Methodist Church and a graduate of Salem Liberty High School. She was a homemaker.
On May 12, 1934, she married Lloyd M. Thomas who preceded her in death on January 25, 1990.
Wilma is survived by one daughter, Anne (Tom) Bucher of Gahanna, OH and granddaughter Becky Thorne of Gahanna and grandsons, Bob Bucher of Plain City, OH, and Jim Bucher of Grove City, OH; great grandchildren: Angie (Rex) Toney, Brandon (Mary) Thorne, Jamie Bucher, Christopher Bucher and 3 great, great grandchildren: Ashton, Chance and Makenna Toney.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard, and 5 sisters and 2 brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday (July 25th) at 10:30 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Reverend Don Archer officiating. Burial will be in Salem Township Cemetery. Family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8pm on Friday evening. Memorial contributions in Wilma’s memory may be made to Norwood United Methodist Church, 23 Colegate Drive.
Erma Ruth Siders
Erma Ruth Siders, 87, of Marietta, passed away at 6:20 am at home surrounded by her loving family on Monday, July 20, 2009.
She was born on June 14, 1922, in Youngstown, Ohio a daughter of Charles and Helen Madison Wright. She was a devoted, loving mother, grannie and wife. Erma was a member of Auxiliary VFW Post 5108, Eastern Star, the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley, North Shore Animal League, Advocates for Animals, Humane Society of the United States, Frontier CB Radio Club, Buckeye Twirlers Square Dance Club, American Legion Auxiliary Post 64, Gold Star Mothers, and a member of Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church in Naples Florida. She volunteered at the Oak Grove Fire Department Ice Cream Social and was a Red Cross Volunteer. She enjoyed karaoke, camping, CB Round-Ups, garage sales and helping others
On July 5, 1942, she married Leland E. “Jack” Siders who preceded her in death on September 7, 1998. Erma is survived by 2 sons and 2 daughters: David L. (Pam) Siders of Marietta, Kenneth D. Siders of Belpre, Nancy E. Biehl of Marietta with who she made her home for the last 5 years, and Linda J. (Orris) Johnson of Naples, FL. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren and 3 special friends: Dot Wittekind, Eunice Busch and Wilma Christopher.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her stepfather Willis Rieger who raised her from the age of 3, and 2 sons: Richard “Dick” Siders who died in Japan in 1965 while in route to Vietnam and Jack Siders, Jr. who died in 1980 while serving with the Merchant Marines and daughter-in-law Doris Siders.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (July 22) at 2:00 at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Reverend Richard Heller officiating. Burial will be in Valley Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5:00 pm on Tuesday with family present from 6 until 8.
Katherine G. Barth
Katherine G. Barth, 89, of Williamstown, went to be with our Lord unexpectedly at 2:52 a.m. on Sunday (July 19, 2009) at Selby General Hospital.
She was born on June 30, 1920, in Wood County, W.Va., a daughter of William and Lola Rowley Brothers. Katherine had been a telephone operator for Ohio Bell, worked at Garber's Store in Williamstown and retired from J. C. Penney's in Marietta. She was a member of the Church of Christ since her teens and was a very faithful member of Riverside Church of Christ in Williamstown and involved in all activities at the church. She was also a member of Williamstown Senior Citizens. She loved cooking, especially baking her children and grandchildren's birthday cakes. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed having everyone together for family dinners.
In 1945, she married Robert L. Barth, who preceded her in death in 1966. Katherine is survived by her daughter, Carmen Gates (Gale Karcher) of Vienna, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Marie Holtz (Bill Snyder), Alan Gates and Heather, Daniel Gates, and Marisa Broadwater and Bill, all of Williamstown; seven great-grandchildren, Anthony Holtz and Kayla Britton, both of Marietta, Andrew Holtz, Ashley Benson, James Broadwater, Jessica Broadwater, Cullen Meadow, Alison Gates and special friend Millie Houser, all of Williamstown. Also surviving are one sister, Bette Willison of Springfield, Va.; and former son-in-law, Donald R. Gates of Vienna.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three sisters and three brothers, Lola Forrester, Cecil Brothers, Estella Boll, Wylie Brothers, Kenneth Brothers, and Ruth Brothers, who died at the age of 7.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday (July 22) at Riverside Church of Christ on Caroline Avenue in Williamstown. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home after 2 p.m. on Tuesday with family present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday..
Hazel Irene Baker
Hazel Irene Dennis Baker, 92, of Marietta, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at Marietta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on November 24, 1916, in Marietta a daughter of John and Ethel Smith Dennis. Hazel was a homemaker all her life. She was a member of Belpre United Methodist Church and loved gardening, her family and all her friends dearly. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her son, Milton F. Baker, Sr. and his wife Patty of Marietta, foster son Jerry Sarver of Charleston, WV, 4 grandchildren: Mr. And Mrs. Michael S. Baker of Belpre, Mr. And Mrs. Milton F. Baker, Jr. of Vincent, Mr. And Mrs. Butch (Shellie) Arnott of Marietta and Timothy G. Baker; foster grandchildren: Tiffany, John and Melissa Sarver of Charleston, WV, sister Phylena Meiser, 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Wilson S. Baker, son Darryl W. Baker and his wife Doris Jean Baker, 3 brothers and 7 sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday (July 18th) at 10:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Reverend Paul McGuire officiating. Entombment will be in East Lawn Memorial Park. Joan Beardmore Morris
Joan Beardmore Morris of Marietta passed away peacefully at Marietta Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, July 14, 2009.
She was born on July 12, 1931 in Marietta, the only daughter and middle child of Clyde Beardmore and Clara. Rowland Beardmore McClead. She was proud of the fact that her four brothers all served in a branch of the service. She was raised as a Methodist and attended school in Newport and Marietta. On June 7, 1952 she married Richard "Dick" Morris. During his 2O years in the United States Air Force they lived in Texas and Indiana. She was a devoted -wife and mother and grandmother. She loved recalling times spent with her grandsons. Her favorite Kitty, Sassy, will miss her very much.
She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Morris of the home, and ; Mary Jo Montgomery of" New Matamoras. Her grandsons are Sean Montgomery and Joshua Montgomery of New Matamoras, and their brothers, Jay, Darrin, and Steve Montgomery. She is also survived by her brother Paul Beardmore and his wife, Alice, sisters-in—law Mary Martha "Marty" Morris, Doris Morris., and Leticia "Tede" Kampmeier, brother-in-law David Morris and his wife Shirley, all of Marietta, and brother-in-law Roy Morris and his wife Elaine of West Virginia. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 11, 1986, her parents and stepfather Furl McClead, and brothers William, Charles (Tom), and Philip.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 pm Thursday, July 16 at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Rick Headley officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 pm Wednesday until the hour of service.
George W. “Jimmy” Curtis
George W. Curtis “Jimmy” passed away Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Marietta Memorial Hospital at the age of 84
Jimmy was born April 8, 1925, in Washington County to the late Clim and Elenor Curtis. Jimmy served his country in the United States Air Force.
He made life in Marietta with his wife Deloris Curtis whom he married March 27, 1979. She survives with 3 sons Devonne (Jessi) Curtis of Parkersburg, Dean Curtis of Marietta, and Paul (Krystal) Lincoln of Marietta; 3 daughters: Denise Kelly, Danitta Curtis both of Columbus and Paulette Lincoln of Marietta, also 3 grandchildren raised at home: Darrel, Wesley with daughter Jalen, and Brandon Lincoln, also, his grandchildren: David Lincoln, with daughter Keyonte', Tiffany Lincoln with children Rickie and Raegan of Marietta, and Cassandra and Santana Curtis of Parkersburg. He will also be greatly missed by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many whose life he has touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, and 1 brother.
Funeral services will be held at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home on Tuesday (July 14) at 1:00 pm. Graveside services will be held immediately after at East Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at the funeral home at 2:00 on Sunday until the hour of the service.
Freda I. Hill
Freda Ione Adamson Hill, 91, of Marietta, passed away on Tuesday evening, July 7, 2009, at The Inn at Marietta where she had resided for the past 4 years.
She was born on December 10, 1917, in New Matamoras, Ohio, a daughter of the late Perley C. and Mata Miller Adamson. Freda was a member of First Congregational Church, a life member of Matamoras area Historical Society and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a graduate of New Matamoras High School, Class of 1935, and had been employed at Singer Sewing Machine Company and Ash Hanson Greenhouse. Freda had traveled extensively throughout North America, seeing much of the United States including Hawaii and Alaska as well as Canada. She had also traveled to Europe, visiting France, Belgium, Hungary, Germany, Austria and the Scandinavian countries. She enjoyed working puzzles, crocheting, arranging floral bouquets and being outside and working in her flowerbeds.
On May 20, 1939, she married George Franklin Hill in St. Marys, WV. He preceded her in death on September 26, 2004.
Freda is survived by her sons: Perley F. (Madeline) Hill and Gary L. (Barbara) Hill; grandchildren: James F. (Jessica) Hill, Lisa R. (Tim) Saunders, Lori M. (Mike) McVey, Tessa M. Hill, Treva S. (Joe) Huffman, Tyson Q. Hill; great grandchildren: Joshua and Justin Hill, Taylor and Cydnee Saunders, Ryan, Kyle and Evan McVey, Lucas, Zachery and Ava Huffman. She is also survived by brothers-in-law: Aldin “Bud” Harris and Arch Hill; sister-in-law Dimmie Turner and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one grandchild, Debra K. Hill, and siblings: Alta I. (Paul) Smith, Evelyn P. (James) Mildren and Ella P. Harris.
Funeral services will be held on Friday (July 10th) at 10:30 am at First Congregational Church with Reverend Linda Steelman officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home on Thursday evening beginning at 6:00 with family present from 6 until 8.
