Glen Martin

       Glen Martin, 77, of Marietta passed away at his home on Saturday, February 27, 2010.
       A son of Arthur Alfred Martin and Mildred D. Stark Martin, Glen was born on May 12, 1932 in Washington County.  He was a graduate of Lower Salem High School and had been employed at B.F. Goodrich for 35 years until his retirement in 1988.  Glen was a avid race fan and loved square dancing, county music and his dogs Tia and Sadie, but most of all he loved his grandchildren.
       In 1981 he married Linda Shook who survives with children, Steve (Connie) Martin of Belpre, Craig Martin and his friend Diane of Marietta, Michael (Missy) Martin of Fleming and stepchildren Debbie (Bill) Hunt of Fleming and Ann (Cliff) Blosser of Cutler.   Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and 2 great step-grandchildren.  Sister Pauline Seyler of Marietta, 2 nieces, 3 nephew-in-laws, 5 great nieces, a great nephew and a great great niece also survives.
       In addition to his parents, Glen was preceded in death by a brother Floyd Martin, a granddaughter Kristy Marie Martin and a niece.
       Funeral services will be held 11 am Wednesday, March 3rd at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Don Hart officiating.  Burial will follow in Highland Ridge Cemetery.  Visitation will begin 2 pm Tuesday at the funeral home and the family will greet friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Home Nursing, 210 7th St. Marietta, OH. 

Anthony “Tony” Menna

       Anthony “Tony” Menna of 936 Fifth Street, Marietta, went home with our Lord and Savior on February 22, 2010 at 5:45 pm.  Anthony was 69 years young.
       Anthony was born on January 9, 1941.  He enjoyed Praising the Lord more than anything.
       Tony was lovingly cared for by a special friend, Faye Farmer, a special aide, Brittany May Wheeler, Stephanie, Shawnda, Bonnie, Linda, Gail, Dr. Leopold, his nurse Linda Dearth, Respiratory, the entire 2nd floor staff at The Arbors.
       There will be no services.  “Tony” will “Rest in Peace” with the Farmer Family at Gravel Bank Cemetery.

       Memorial contributions may be made to “The House of Hope, County House Lane, Marietta.  McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Wayne B. Shook

      Wayne B. Shook, 75, of Mitchells Lane, Marietta, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2010, at his home.
      Graveside services will be held at the convenience of his family. McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Delbert E. Schafer

       Delbert E. Schafer, 99 years, 7 months and 8 days old, of Bloomfield went home to be with his Lord and Savior and to join his sweetheart, Midge, at 4:25 am on Sunday, February 21, 2010, at his home.
            He was born on July 13, 1910, at Rinard Mills to Walter Elsworth Schafer and Elizabeth Mary Ullman Schafer.  In his early years with his 1936 Ford Truck, he transported coal, cattle and helped relocate families in Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and Michigan.  He helped build the Bloomfield High School in 1929.  Following the death of his father in 1942, he took over the operations of Schafer General Store at Bloomfield, which he continued to operate until his death.
            He was an active member of Bloomfield United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher and superintendent, was a member of Ludlow Community Club and was honored by Fleda as Citizen of the Year and then in 2009 was presented the Centennial Award honoring his upcoming 100th birthday, and was a member of Senior Citizens at New Matamoras.
            Delbert was a practical joker and story teller, liked to rabbit hunt, gardening, nature walks, church functions, fish fries, fellowship with friends and neighbors, but most of all he enjoyed his family.
            On April 28, 1934, he married Mildred Leona Graham who preceded him in death on April 8, 1989.  He is survived by 2 daughters:  Naomi Ruth Scott of Canton, OH and Leona Jane Weckbacher of Marietta; 9 grandchildren:  Jeff (Cindy) Scott and Tracy (Tammy) Scott both of Canton, Cindy (Rick) Harpin of Virginia Beach, Brent (Kathy) Weckbacher and Beth Ann (Roy) Marshall both of Bloomfield, Lorraine (Don) Howell of Wingett Run, Todd (Kristy) Weckbacher and Cheryl (Tom) Handschumaker both of Marietta, Tina (Dan) VanWey of Newport.  Also surviving are 17 great grandchildren:  Marc, Kurtus, Aaron, Adam, Ross, Hillary, Faith, Madison, Joel, Jacob, Zachary, Rachael, Ryan, Caitlin, Sam, Nathan, Elizabeth, and 2 great, great grandchildren.
            In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren, Randy & Scotty Weckbacher, 2 sons-in-law, Guy Scott and Mark Weckbacher, 3 brothers and 2 sisters:  Lawrence, Wayne, and Ralph Schafer, Rena Ullman and Audrey Schafer.
            The family would like to give special thanks to Interim Health Care, Brent Weckbacher, Roy Bowersock, Lorraine Howell and Little Muskingum Fire Department.
            Funeral services will be held on Thursday (February 25th) at 1:00 pm at Bloomfield United Methodist Church at Bloomfield, Ohio with Reverend Richard Wilson and Reverend Madlynne Weber officiating.  Burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery.  Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home beginning on Tuesday after 2:00 pm and all day Wednesday.  At his request, on Thursday Mr. Schafer will be taken to his home from 9 until 11 and then to the church at 12:00 noon.

Hope D. Wendelken

      Hope Doris Wendelken, 89, passed peacefully to join her husband on February 17, 2010.  Her husband Thomas Joseph Wendelken preceded her on October 18, 1999.  They were married on July 11, 1942.
       She was born on October 16, 1920, at Newells Run, Ohio.  Hope had worked for the Ohio Bureau of Unemployment Compensation in both Marietta and Columbus and during WWII had worked for the Remington Rand Propeller Division in Marietta and New York.  Following the war she was employed by Marietta Chamber of Commerce and then became a homemaker.  She and Tommy lived many years in Byesville, Ohio.
       Hope was a 69 year member of Marietta Chapter #59 Order of Eastern Star.
       She is survived by her daughter, Miriam Wendelken and grandson Thomas Edward Wendelken with whom she had made her home since 1992.  She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, including Sharon Wilson Cutrone of Chicago and Richard Wilson, Joretta Bills, Peggy Cooper and Mary Gill, all of Marietta.
       Hope also considered as family her caretakers on The Haven Unit of Harmar Place where she had been a resident since June of 2008.   Their patient and loving care was deeply appreciated.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde E. and Margaret (Schultheis) Wilson and brothers Ralph and Maurice Wilson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday (February 19th) at 2:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial in East Lawn Memorial Park.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday afternoon from 2 until 4 and one hour before the service.  An avid pet lover, in lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley, PO Box 5, Marietta, Ohio.

Walter “Bud” Stevens

      Walter L. “Bud” Stevens, 65, of Marietta, passed away at Mt. Carmel East in Columbus, at 2:15 pm on Saturday, February 13, 2010.
      He was born in Marietta on September 12, 1944, a son of the late Carl E. Stevens and Agnes M. Fife Stevens Hubacher of Marietta.  Bud had been employed by Stone Container Corp. and was a member of Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge.
      He is survived by 1 son and 1 daughter:  Michael (Robyn) Stevens and Robin (Harvey III) Travis all of Marietta, 2 grandchildren:  Ashley Stevens and Haley Travis and longtime friend and caregiver Maudie Stevens Kitts.  He is also survived by 4 sisters:  Ruby Bryner of Marietta, Martha Winkler of Sugar Creek, Betty Stevens and Penny Clark both of Marietta, and several nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his father.
      Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (February 17th) at 1:30 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Kapple officiating.  Burial will be in Gravel Bank Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon beginning at 2:00 with family present from 2-4 and 6-8.  On line condolences may be sent to the family at:   www.mslfuneralhome.com.

Phylena Henderhan Meiser

      Phylena Henderhan Meiser, 98, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Marietta Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
      She was born at Cow Run, Washington County, Ohio on December 17, 1911, a daughter of John Dennis and Ethel Smith Dennis and was the last member of a family of twelve.
      In 1929, Phylena married Gerald Henderhan, who preceded her in death in 1961.  She and her husband lived on a farm on Jennings Hill where they enjoyed the farm life.
      She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Betty Jane and 2 great grandchildren.
      She is survived by 4 daughters, Ethel (Dyan) Martin Cunningham, Mary (David) Conley, M. Ann Mayer of Marietta and Marilyn Stobaugh of Matthews, MO.  Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
      In 1963 she was married to Leo Meiser, who preceded her in death in 1968. 
      She was a past member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and had attended St Mary Catholic Church.
      Funeral services will held 10:30 am, Monday, February 15th at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Father Michael Campbell officiating.  Burial will follow in Valley Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home starting 2pm Sunday until the service.  The family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 on Sunday

Joseph E. Richards

      Joseph E. Richards, 76, of Marietta, passed away at 6:00 am on Thursday, February 11, 2010, at the Arbors at Marietta.
      He was born on November 23, 1933, at Marietta to George Melvin and Elsie Dorothy Scarberry Richards.  He was baptized at Faith United Methodist Church.  He was an oil field production worker.
      He is survived by 1 stepson and 2 stepdaughters, Roy E. Littleton, Jr. and Violet M. Lauer, Debbie Streight and special grandson Trey Littleton all of Marietta.  He is also survived by 3 brothers: Russell of Hagerstown, MD, David of Taos, NM, Tommy Lynn of Dallas; sister Irene McKimm of Lewisville, OH, half brother Bud Whiting of OK, half sister Doshia Lewis of Marietta.
      He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma Littleton.
      Funeral services will be held on Saturday (February 13th) at 2:00 at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Reverend Don Archer officiating.  Burial will be in Putnam Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 am on Saturday until the hour of the service.

Grace C. Clark

      Grace Catherine Clark, 89, of Marietta, passed away at Genesis Health and Rehabilitation on Saturday, February 6, 2009.
       She was born on November 8, 1920, in Watertown Township to the late Frederick and Pearl Muntz Gebhart.  She lived all her life in this area.  Grace graduated in 1939 from Marietta High School and attended Marietta Business College.  She was employed in sales at Montgomery Wards and Kroger Company and also worked as secretary/accountant for Marietta Concrete Corp., Croy Lumber and American Petroel.
       Grace was a member of Marietta Senior Citizens, RSVP and VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed square dancing, bingo and cards.
       She is survived by one son, Donald Gebhart and his wife Sharon; 3 grandchildren:  David Gebhart, Stephanie Newbanks and Corey Gebhart; 3 great grandchildren:  Gavin, Gwen and Sydney, 2 sisters, Helen Britton of Mesa AZ and Betty Ford of Devola and several nieces and nephews.
       She was preceded in death by her husband Charles W. Clark on February 1, 1998, her parents and 2 brothers, William and Harold Gebhart.
       Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 10th, at 1:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Wendy Erb officiating.  Burial will be in Rainbow Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 2:00 on Tuesday afternoon with family present from 2-4 and 6-8.
       Memorial contributions are requested to the O’Neill Senior Center, VFW Ladies Auxiliary or Genesis Health & Rehab.
