Eloise Maxine Scott Hall

            Eloise Maxine Scott Hall, 81, of Marietta went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Marietta Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.
            She was born on December 7, 1929 at Scotts Ridge, a daughter of the late Joseph and Golda Hendershot Scott.
            Eloise graduated from Lower Salem High School in 1949 and had worked for F. W. Woolworth and B. F. Goodrich/R.J.F. International.  She was a charter member of Faith Bible Church in Williamstown, WV. Eloise was also a 50th year member of Tunnel-Pleasant Ridge WCTU. Eloise’s hobbies included traveling, spending time with her family, and helping with various childrens ministries including Sunday School, Junior Church, and Awana.
            Eloise married Orville Hall on June 20, 1948.  She is survived by three children.  Shila (Charles) Harris of Reno, Sherry Augenstein of Dexter City and friend Rodney Hall, and Larry Hall of Oak Grove and friend Barb Casto.  Four grandchildren Shelly (Bill) Bickford, Michael (Angie) Augenstein, Beth (Jim) DeMark and Bradley Harris.
Five great grandchildren Tristen and Taylor Bickford, Raya and Myka Augenstein and Evan DeMark.
            Eloise is also survived by sister Juanita Hall of Whipple, brother John (Jo Ann) Scott of Oberlin, Ohio and sister-in-law, Arlene Scott of Hilliard, Ohio.
Deceased are her husband Orville E. Hall, brothers Walter & Elmer Scott, brother-in-law Paul Hall and stepsister Thelma Morgenstern.
            Services will be at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home on Saturday, June 4 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday.  Burial will be at Salem Township Cemetery. Her grandson Bradley Harris and Pastor Steve DeLay will be officiating.
            The family request that memorial contributions be made to Faith Bible Church, 118 West 9th Street, Williamstown, WV 26187.

Merrill B. Glasser

            Merrill B. Glasser, 90, of Marietta passed away on Monday, May 30, 2011, at 10 am at Harmar Place.
            At his request his body will be cremated and a graveside services will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at 1:30 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nelsonville, Ohio.

Teresa Marie Rhoades

            Teresa Marie Rhoades, 40, of Marietta passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2011, at her home.
            At her request her body will be cremated and a memorial service will  be held at a later date. McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Margery A. Casto

            Margery A. Casto, 92, of Williamstown, died Saturday (May 28, 2011) at Marietta Care and Rehabilitation Center. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Riverview Cemetery

Rebecca J. Persell

            Rebecca J. Persell, 62, of Marietta, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Marietta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
            Memorial services will be held on Friday (June 3rd) at 11:00 am at Putnam Congregational Church with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. 

Edith M. Wendelken

            Edith Merrelle Wendelken of Marietta Rehabilitation Center, Marietta, passed away suddenly Wednesday, May 25, 2011, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s.  The daughter of Thomas and Ella Matheny Dearth, she was born on August 6, 1923 in Reno, Ohio.
            Edith married Mervin Wendelken on June 23, 1981.  He preceded her in death in 1995.  They enjoyed a busy life with church (Marietta Bible Center), friends and family.  When Edith was healthy she would spend her time with friends.  One could find her most days eating lunch at Wendy’s with her group of friends and family, enjoying music along the levee, and she would often end her evenings drinking coffee with friends at McDonalds.  She spent many enjoyable days sitting in the group room at The Inn and most recently at Marietta Rehabilitation Center.  Her friends there could depend on her for lively conversation every day and the nurses spent many hours talking to her as she sat with them late into the evening.  We are thankful for the kindness of each person at both The Inn and Marietta Rehab.  We are especially thankful for the excellent care on her last day.
            She is survived by her sister, Bernadine (John) Murphy, her daughter, Sally (Juddson) Lewis, and her daughter-in-law, Joyce Ritchie.  She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and their families:  Dean (Judy, Beth & Brooke) Lewis, Becky (Garry & Nicole) Best, Jane (Rick, Chelsi, Kara & Alec) Smith, Debbie (Doug, Brady & Case) Edgar, Jeff (Paula & Nick) Lewis, and Edie (Ryan, Sydney & Ellery) Westbrook and several nieces and nephews.
            She was preceded in death by her brother Art Dearth, her sisters Genevieve Bogard, Kate Carpenter, Joann Pritchett, her son, Thomas Ritchie and one great-grandchild, Shea Best.
            The family invites you to the services in her honor on Saturday (May 28) at 10:30 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will begin at the funeral home on Friday at 6:00pm with family present from 6-8.

Irvin Eugene Treadway

            Irvin Eugene Treadway, 84, of Marietta, passed away at 1:46 pm on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster, Ohio.
            He was born on April 2, 1927, in Sandyville, Ohio, a son of Gilbert and Marie Maddox Treadway.  He was a member of Faith Bible Center of Williamstown, a veteran of U.S. Air Force serving in Korea, and had been employed at Republic Steel and Hart’s Family Center.
            Irvin is survived by his daughter, Karen Treadway of Marietta, brother Earl Treadway of Fleming, 2 sisters:  Thelma Moffett and Ilene Harris both of Williamstown, and several nieces and nephews.
            He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Raymond Treadway, 2 sisters, Kate Lowe and Delsie Treadway.
            Funeral services will be held on Saturday (May 28) at 1:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Delay officiating.  Burial will follow in Tunnel Cemetery with full military honors.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday beginning at 2:00 pm. 

Robert D. “Bob” Cameron

            Robert D. “Bob” Cameron, 61, of Marietta, passed away Friday, May 20, 2011, at his home surrounded by his loving wife and family.
          On June 13, 1949, he was born in Charleston, WV, to Claude and Tressie Taylor Cameron who preceded him in death.  He was a self-employed auto body man for over 20 years, retiring in 1999.  He loved old cars, hunting, fishing and spending time with his wife and family.
          He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Alda Stull Cameron whom he married on August 9, 1970, sister Sharon (Fred) Galati of Lowell, brother Allen Cameron of Lowell, several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
          He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Roger Cameron.
          Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home on Tuesday (May 24) from 2:00pm followed by cremation.

Martha “Marti” N. Angert

            Martha “Marti” N. Angert, 72, of Marietta, recently departed on May 11, 2011, for the Rainbow Bridge where we are sure many of her four legged companions were awaiting her arrival.
            Born November 18, 1938 to Susan and Theodore Fetherston, she began her life in Oak Park, Illinois, moving to New Jersey at the age of two.  She lived in Caldwell, NJ, and graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in 1956.  She attended Marietta College from 1956-58 where she met and later married David B. Angert in 1958.
            She is survived by their children, Susan (David) Ludtman and James (Dianah), six grandchildren: Nick Anderson, Missy (Shane Zoller), Teddy Ludtman (Amanda), Sam Ludtman, Chris Angert (Jenny), and Josh Blevins (Sophie), and three great grandchildren: Katelyn Blevins, Braxton Angert and Kaleah Ludtman.  Also a close family friend was left behind, June Britton.
            While raising her family she volunteered as a Girl Scout leader, 4-H leader and maintained a decent bowling average with a high game of 279.
            In 1986 she went back to school at Washington Technical College, receiving a 2 year technical degree in business management, with a 1 year accounting certificate.  She later attended Washington State Community College receiving a 2 year degree in Early Childhood Education.  She has worked at Miss Peggy’s House, Brownies, JoAnn Fabrics and North Hills Lanes.  After retiring from Miss Peggy’s House she became a volunteer, rescuing Retired Racing Greyhounds, (even adopting several), Fostering as a grandparent at Head Start and being a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children) case worker.  She was always on avid reader, sewer and knitter.
            Memorial Services will be Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the Little Muskingum Congregational Church.  Donations can be made to the Green Building Fund for the Humane Society c/o the Marietta Community Foundation.  McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements and online condolences can be sent at:  www.mslfuneralhome.com.

Dean E. Morgenstern

            Another veteran has died…Dean E. Morgenstern, 87, of Marietta, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
            He was born on March 5, 1924, in Washington County, a son of Clarence and Bessie Riemenschneider Morgenstern.  He graduated from Salem Liberty High School in 1942.  During World War II, he served as a medic in the 87th Infantry and under General Patton during the Battle of the Bulge.  He then returned to Marietta College where he completed his degree in 1948.  Dean was a director for Borg Warner Chemicals that later became G.E., retiring in 1992.  He served on the O”Neill Senior Center Board, United Way Board and was Chairman of SCORE.  He was a former member of Marietta City Council, volunteered for several organizations and was a member of Gilman United Methodist Church where he held various offices.
            On June 23, 1946, he married Mabel Hendershot who survives with 3 daughters:  Pam (John) Grimes of Marietta, Cheryl (Charlie) Slavik of Indianapolis, Joyce (Greg Birtsch) Cravens-Birtsch of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren:  Tommy (Marsha) Carvens, Teddy (Liz) Cravens, Stephanie (Matt) Slavik-Jones, Nate Slavik, Stuart Grimes, Ashleigh Birtsch, Hunter Birtsch.  He is also survived by great grandchildren:  Mae and Henry Cravens, Ella and Eli Jones, and sister-in-law Marge Morgenstern.
            He was preceded in death by his parents, step grandson, Matthew Grimes, brother Delmer Morgenstern, sister Leora Hendershot.
            Funeral services will be held on Thursday (May 19) at 11:00 am at Gilman United Methodist Church with Reverend Diann O’Bryant officiating with burial following in Mound Cemetery with full military honors.  Friends may call on Wednesday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home after 2:00pm with family present from 2-4 and 6-8. 

Patricia Ann Denton

            Patricia Ann Denton, 76, of Marietta passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus.
            She was born on March 29, 1935, in Washington County, Ohio, a daughter of Howard and Jessie Flowers Sciance.  Patricia was a cook in various restaurants and also a healthcare provider.  She was a member of Harmar Hill Church of Christ.  She was a hard worker and a loving mother and friend.
            On October 6, 1952, she married Paul F. Denton, Sr. who preceded her in death on June 14, 2001.
            She is survived by 1 son and 4 daughters:  Jeffrey Denton of the home, Paula (Murray) Colyer, Dianne Denton, Kimberly Burke, Jennifer (Ronald) Daggett all of Marietta.  Also, she is survived by grandchildren:  Michael Colyer, Paul Denton III, Patty Bonar, Robbie Ritchie, Jessie Baughan, Maxwell Burke, Darcy Daggett , 5 great grandchildren, her sister Ileen Schwendeman, brother Dexter Sciance and her faithful companion, AJ.
            She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Paul Denton, Jr., and grandson Robert John Colyer.
            Graveside services will be held on Tuesday (May 17) at 2:00 pm at Gravel Bank Cemetery.   McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting family with arrangements.  

Lillian Jane Edwards

            Lillian Jane Edwards, 64, of Marietta, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 8, 2011.
            Jane was born on October 18, 1946, in Marietta a daughter of Elwood Philip Edwards and Helen Reginia Yost Edwards.  She was a graduate of Marietta High School and Ohio University.  After college graduation, she worked as a teacher in Fairmont, WV.  Then she became the Head Start Director for Washington, Morgan County Community Action for 36 years.  She loved the program with a passion and she was dedicated to the education of the children and mentoring staff.
            Jane is survived by her niece, Traci Edwards of Richland, WA, Cherryl and Doug Watt of Belpre, OH,, her beloved dog Maci and several special friends especially those at Community Action Head Start.
            In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Philip Edwards.
            Memorial services will be held 2pm at First Presbyterian Church on Sunday, May15th, with Reverend Spransy officiating.  McClure-Schafer-Lankford is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Human Society at PO Box 5, Marietta, OH 45750.

Donald E. Kuhn, Sr.

            Donald E. Kuhn, Sr., 45, of Marietta, passed away at 9:50 pm on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
            He was born in Marietta on April 25, 1966, a son of Jerald and Sue Hodge Kuhn.  Donnie was a member of God’s Church, a veteran of U.S. Army and West Virginia National Guard, a graduate of Marietta High School and a member of VFW Post 5108.
            On August 7, 2010, he married Rachel Leja who survives with 3 sons: Donnie Kuhn, Jr. of Vine Grove, KY, Ryan Kuhn of Marietta and Levi Kuhn of Marietta, 1 daughter Kalee Leja of Marietta, brother David Kuhn of North Carolina, sister Becky Lyons of South Carolina, grandmother Virginia Hodge of Marietta and numerous nieces and nephews.
            He was preceded in death by his brother Douglas Kuhn, Sr. grandparents, Orville and Frances Kuhn, and Harold Hodge, Sr.
            Funeral services will be held on Monday (May 16) at 1:00pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial in Schafer Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday after 2:00 with family present from 2-4 & 6-8. 

Alice V. Griffin

            Alice V. Griffin, 78, of Marietta, passed away at 11:37pm on Wednesday, May 12, 2011, at her home.
            She was born on March 24, 1933, in Wood County, West Virginia, a daughter of Roy and Iona Dye Pugh.  She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 5108.
            Alice married Larry Hasley who preceded her in death.  She is survived by 3 sons and 1 daughter:  Randy (Janet) Hasley of Marietta, David (Lois) Hasley of Stewart, OH, Mike (Lois) Hasley of Marietta, Dianne (Patrick) Joyce of Porterfield, 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 1 brother and 3 sisters:  Sam Pugh of Parkersburg, Carol Gorham of Barlow, Garnett McKnight of Marietta, Dorothy Jean Anderson of South Carolina.  Later she married Norval Griffin who also preceded her in death.
            In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her sister Ruth Cantwell.
            Funeral services will be held on Saturday (May 14) at 3:00 at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial in East Lawn Memorial Park.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday after 2:00pm..

Ronald William Offenberger

            Ronald William Offenberger, 63, of Marietta, left to be with his Heavenly Father, May 11, 2011.
           Ron was born January 6, 1948 at Marietta, to Betty Pfieffer and the late William Offenberger. He was a graduate of St. Mary s High School and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.  After graduation Ron served with the US Army in Vietnam.  After his discharge he worked at Zide’s Sport Shop before working for the City of Marietta; first in the water plant and then later at the sewage treatment until his retirement in 2003.   After retirement Ron went to work for Herrington Motors and the Marietta Times.  He was also a life member of VFW Post 5108.
            Surviving is his wife Bonita (VanWey) Offenberger, a daughter Mirya Hanes (Fiancé Bobby Roseberry), and sons Gabriel (Dannon) and Trent Offenberger.  Also surviving are grandsons Matthew Lewis and Alexander Colt Offenberger, Landon Lee Hanes, and Bobby Lee Roseberry II, a granddaughter Shelby Moore Offenberger.  Brothers Mike and Mark Offenberger and sister Susan Long also survive him.
            In addition to his father, a brother David preceded Ron in death.
            Private Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home assisting the family.  Entombment will be at East Lawn Memorial Park. 

Richard L. Staats

            Richard L. Staats, 90, of Parkersburg, WV, passed away at 8:15 pm on Sunday, May 8, 2011.
            He was born on May 1, 1921, in Williamstown, WV, a son of Everett W. and Edna V. Cross Staats.  He was employed for 40 years as an electrician, a 60-year member IBEW, and a veteran of World War II Army Air Corps.  He was a member of Williamstown Baptist Church where he was a past Deacon, member of Senior Adult Leadership Team, teacher and leader of small group bible study.  He was also past President of National Fenton Glass Society and publisher of the club newsletter.
            He is survived by 1 daughter, Joyce Ann Staats, niece Rena (Roy) Friend, nephew Richard Cassady, son Howard (Kathy) Ross of Beverly, OH, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and special friend Nadine Witte.
            He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Lucille Uhl, second wife Ruby Snyder, and 2 sisters, Jean Staats and Rose Marie Cassady.
            Funeral services will be held on Thursday (May 12th) at 10:30 at Williamstown First Baptist Church with Chad Mugrage officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.  Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home on Wednesday after 2:00pm with family present from 2-4 and 6-8.

Mary Margaret “Moyra” Biehl

            Mary Margaret “Moyra” Biehl, 88, of Marietta, passed away at her home on Saturday, May 7, 2011.
            She was born on April 5, 1923, in Borris County Carlow, Ireland, a daughter of Edward and Ethyl Maude Knipe O’Rourke.  She graduated from High School in Dublin, Ireland.  On September 19, 1960, Carl and Elizabeth Broughton brought her to Marietta as a Nanny for their children, Ruth Broughton, Mary Vituccio and George William Broughton.  She then went on to baby sit for many children at her home until February, 2011.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening and caring for her children.
            On February 2, 1974, at the First Congregational Church, she married Edgar Biehl who survives with step children:  Kay (Charlie) McKnight of Marietta, Linda (Ken) Lewis of Delaware, Ohio, Edgar A. “Butch” (Deanna) Biehl of Maryland, several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.   She is also survived by her sister, Violet O’Rouke and brother, Jerry O’Rouke both from England.
            She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Kathleen and her husband Mike and brother,  Eamon and his wife Peg.
            Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (May 11th) at 10:30 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Father Mike Campbell officiating.  Entombment will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday after 2:00 with family present from 3-4 and 6-8.

Oren C. Wears, Jr.

                Oren C. Wears, Jr., 74, of Belpre, went to be with our Lord this day, Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at home with his family. 
                 He was born in Pliny, WV on June 14, 1936, to the late Oren C. Wears, Sr., and Georgie Pearl Rose. He was a member of the Light House Church, Belpre, OH.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had been employed as a truck driver for 56 years.
                He is survived by his wife, Eileen Hendrickson Wears, children: Tina Wears, Kevin Wears and wife Bernadette, Gregory Wears and wife Rebecca, Diana McCoy and husband Russ, Raymond Wears and wife Jennifer, and sister Eloise Fellure, 18 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
                He was preceded in death by brother Maxie Wears and sister Gail Chase. 
                Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 6th, at 10:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Baumer officiating.  Burial will follow at Gravel Bank Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 2:00pm on Thursday. 

Martha L. Pryor

                Martha L.  Pryor, 77, of Belpre passed away at 8:45 am, Monday, May 2, 2011 at the Arcadia Nursing Home.
                She was born on February 6, 1934 at Hamilton, WV to Hazel Blizard.  Martha was a homemaker.
                On March 16, 1963, she married Joseph “Joe” Pryor, who preceded her in death on March 18, 1994.
                Surviving are her 2 sons, John F.  Jones of Coolville and Donald R. Pryor of Peoria, AZ, grandson Michael Thomas of Greensburg, PA.  A brother, Virgil Blizard, of Rockville, MD also survives.
                In addition to her parents and husband, Martha was preceded in death by grandson Joshua Pryor, brothers and sisters:  Elwood, Stelman,  Margaret and Virginia.
                Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm on Friday (May 6th) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial following in Dalzell Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 4 until 8.
